Suárez-Hernández,Ángel Manuel; Vázquez-Angulo,Juan Carlos; Grimaldo-Juárez,Onecimo; Duran,Carlos Ceceña; González-Mendoza,Daniel; Bazante-González,Isidro; Mendoza-Gómez,Aurelia.
ABSTRACT Salinity of soil in arid and semiarid regions is a problem that affects the production and quality of fruit. That’s while we evaluated grafting on watermelon plants as an alternative to reduce the salinity effects. The experimental design was of randomized blocks, three treatments (cultivars Sangria, Summer Flavor 800 and Summer Flavor 840) with three repetitions. The cultivars were evaluated in grafted and ungrafted condition. The rootstock used for grafting was the interspecific hybrid Strong Tosa (C. maxima x C. moschata). In average terms for the three cultivars, grafting increased commercial production, weight, length and diameter of fruits in 160.5%, 36.5%, 12.0% and 7.5%, respectively. Sangria presented the best answer in production with...

Analysis of the 3' end regions of the GDF9 and BMPR1B genes in Blackbelly sheep from Yucatán, Mexico Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
López-Ramírez,Rosa B; Magaña-Sevilla,Héctor F; Zamora-Bustillos,Roberto; Ramón-Ugalde,Julio P; González-Mendoza,Daniel.
The FecB mutation in the BMPR1B gene and the G6, G7 and G8 mutations in the GDF9 gene have been documented in Booroola Merino sheep breeds. These mutations have all been identified in several ovine breeds, such as Belclare, Cambridge. Blackbelly hairy sheep breed, which is well adapted to tropical climates due to its African origin, have 2 to 3 lambs per litter, corresponding to a high prolificacy for a tropical breed. The objective of this investigation was to identify mutations in the cDNA of the BMPR1B and GDF9 genes of 20 Blackbelly ewes selected for their prolificacy (two or more lambs by birth). The results of this study indicate the absence of mutations in these genes from the Blackbelly breed. However, it is important to analyze the 3' end region...
