Bestimmung der N-Fixierung unterschiedlicher Wintererbsengenotypen im Vergleich zu einer Sommererbse in Rein- und Gemengesaat Organic Eprints
Urbatzka, M Sc Peer; Graß, Dr. Rüdiger; Schüler, Dr. Christian; Trautz, Prof. Dieter; Heß, Prof. Jürgen.
In organic farming the cultivation of leguminous crops is one of the most important sources of nitrogen (N). However, regarding the amount of N fixed, there are hardly any published data for winter peas. Therefore, the N fixation of five regular leafed winter peas types and one semi-leafless spring pea cultivar in single and mixed cropping (with winter rye spring cereals respectively) was measured in four successive growing seasons (2003/04 – 2006/07) at the experimental farm of the University of Kassel and in two consecutive vegetation periods (2005/06 - 2006/07) at the experimental farm of the University of Applied Science in Osnabrueck. The amount of N fixed was calculated according to the extended difference method at the beginning of...

Nutzung pflanzengenetischer Ressourcen für den ökologischen Landbau am Beispiel von Wintererbsen Organic Eprints
Urbatzka, MSC Peer; Graß, Dr. Rüdiger; Schüler, Dr. Christian.
Winter peas were cultivated in Germany in the first half of the 20th century for green manure, green forage or as a threshing crop. So far they are mainly used in field ex-periments, e.g. at the University of Kassel. But winter peas are very interesting for or-ganic farming, because of their high N-fixation rate and their ability to suppress weeds effectively. In the vegetation period 2002/2003 twelve genotypes of winter peas from the German genebank in Gatersleben were examined in field trials. In the long and cold winter of 2002/2003 eight different genotypes from Germany, Hungary and the Balkan survived. The yield of the eight accessions as green forage and as a threshing crop (yield between 3 – 4 t/ha) are promising.

Erhalt ökologisch wertvoller Grünlandstandorte durch eine Integrierte Festbrennstoff- und Biogasproduktion aus Biomasse (IFBB-Verfahren) Organic Eprints
Richter, M.sc. Felix; Kuschnereit, M.sc. Sara; Graß, Dr. Rüdiger; Fricke, Dipl.-Ing. agr. Thomas; Wachendorf, Prof. Dr. Michael.
As a new utilisation concept for the conservation of ecologically valuable habitats the integrated generation of solid fuel and biogas from biomass (IFBB) was tested on five semi-natural grasslands from typical German mountain areas. Through hydrothermal conditioning and mechanical dehydration grassland silage was separated into a press cake and a press fluid. In anaerobic digestion experiments with press fluids methane yields of 304 to 522 normal litre per kg organic dry matter were obtained within 13 days. The specific methane production was higher and went faster compared to the fermentation of the untreated grassland silage. Elemental analyses of the press cakes showed a significant reduction in compounds detrimental for combustion. The ash...
