The EAF/5 Integrated Coastal Area Management Project is a multi-lateral project between the countries of the East African Region and the United Nations Environment Programme. The participating countries include Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Comoros and the Seychelles. The project forms part of the activities of the Oceans and Coastal Areas Programme Activity Centre (OCA/PAC) of the United Nations Environment Programme within the framework of the Action Plan for the Protection, Management and Development of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the East African Region. A mothership/dory fishing operation 'Pecheur Breton' caught 559.8 tonnes of fish in and around the exclusive economic zone of the Seychelles between October 1992 and May 1993. The vessel fished using 12 inboard powered diesel catcher boats which were equipped with echo-sounders and electric fishing reels, two men fished from each boat. Lutjanids were the most common species group in the catch representing (45%) of the total followed by Lethrinids (32%), Serranids (15%) and other species (8%) the majority of which were pelagics. Detailed catch/effort logs were kept for each dory on a daily basis by an experienced Seychelles Fishing Authority technician.
