This supplement deals with the diagnostic characteristics and literature data of three species of Phoma sect. Plenodomus: Phoma korfii spec. nov. (synanamorph Sclerotium orobanches Schwein.: Fr.), Phoma pimpinellae spec. nov. (teleomorph Leptosphaeria pimpinellae Lowen & Sivan.) and Phoma etheridgei L.J. Hutchison & Y. Hirats. (only known from isolates). They are filed into the key of section Plenodomus and the indices of the section are supplemented. |

Thirty taxa in Phoma sect. Phyllostictoides, characterised by secondary septation of a variable number of conidia, are described in vitro. Two Phyllostictoides-like species are (re)classified in sect. Sclerophomella on account of certain pycnidial characteristics. Short notes on the ecology and distribution are added. Newly proposed taxa are: Phoma acetosellae (A. L. Sm. & Ramsb.) Aa & Boerema comb, nov., Phoma argillacea (Bres.) Aa & Boerema comb. nov. (teleomorph Didymella applanata (Niessl) Sacc.), Phoma nepeticola (Melnik) Dorenb. & de Gruyter comb, nov. (teleomorph Didymella catariae (Cooke & Ellis) Sacc.), Phoma destructiva var. diversispora de Gruyter & Boerema var. nov., Phoma heliopsidis (H.C. Greene) Aa & Boerema comb,... |

The new section Heterospora is proposed for Phoma species producing not only relatively small, mainly aseptate conidia, but also distinctly larger conidia, which may become 1- or more septate: ‘ascochytoid-stagonosporoid’. The majority of the conidia are always phomoid in vitro, but in vivo they may be predominantly large and septate, synanamorphs being therefore referred to Stagonosporopsis Died. The heterosporous species are described in vitro, with additional data on the conidial morphology in vivo. An addendum deals with eight species from other sections which display a similar conidial dimorphism. Five new species and four new combinations have been proposed: Phoma actaeae spec. nov., Phoma alectorolophi spec. nov., Phoma nigripycnidia spec. nov.,... |

This paper deals with ten species of Phoma, characterized by thick-walled pseudoparenchymatous pycnidia. They superficially resemble the thick-walled pycnidial phenotype in species of Phoma sect. Plenodomus, but scleroplectenchyma is lacking and teleomorphs belong to Didymella, not Leptosphaeria. Keys and indices of host-fungus and fungus-host relations are provided and short comments on the ecology and distribution of the taxa are given. |

In this paper eleven species of Phoma with obvious setose pycnidia, grouped in the section Paraphoma, are documented and described. Most of these species were formerly classified in Pyrenochaeta. The following new taxa have been proposed: Phoma briardii nom. nov., Phoma carteri nom. nov., Phoma glycinicola nom. nov., Phoma indica (T.S. Viswan.) comb, nov., Phoma setariae (H.C. Greene) comb. nov. and Phoma leveillei var. microspora var. nov. Indices on host/substratum-fungus and fungus-host relations are included and short comments on the ecology and distribution of the taxa are given. |

A description is given of the morphological characters of Phoma section Phyllostictoides and its taxonomical position is discussed. A key is provided for the varieties of the type species Phoma exigua Desm., followed by a host-fungus and a fungus-host index. Two new varieties are proposed: Phoma exigua var. forsythiae (Sacc.) comb. nov. and Phoma exigua var. noackiana (Allesch.) comb. nov. The synonymy, selected literature, a representative culture and data on ecology and distribution are given for all varieties. |

Twenty-seven taxa in section Phoma with conidia not exceeding 7 µm in length are keyed out and described on account of their characteristics in vitro. Four new species are introduced: Phoma aurea de Gruyter, Noordel. & Boerema, Phoma crystallifer de Gruyter, Noordel. & Boerema, Phoma flavescens de Gruyter, Noordel. & Boerema and Phoma subherbarum de Gruyter, Noordel. & Boerema. As new names are proposed Phoma chenopodiicola de Gruyter, Noordel. & Boerema, Phoma pereupyrena de Gruyter, Noordel. & Boerema and Phoma selaginellicola de Gruyter, Noordel. & Boerema. New combinations of species originally classified in Phyllosticta Auct. include: Phoma ajacis (Thümen) v.d. Aa & Boerema, Phoma arachidis-hypogaeae (Vasant Rao) v.d.... |

Nine species of Phoma, characterised by always producing relatively large conidia, usually between 7-25 x 2.5-8 µm, aseptate or partly septate, are documented and described in vitro. Three of these fungi could not be described in the usual way, because living cultures were no longer available. The following new taxa are proposed: Phoma andropogonivora (R. Sprague & Rogerson) comb, nov., Phoma boeremae nom. nov., Phoma commelinicola (E. Young) comb. nov. and Phoma gossypiicola nom. nov. The combination Phoma rabiei proposed by Khune is validated along with its teleomorph Mycosphaerella rabiei Kovatsch. Keys and indices on host-fungus and fungus-host relationships are provided and short comments on the ecology and distribution are given. |

Twenty-six species of Phoma, characterized by the ability to produce scleroplectenchymatous pycnidia (and often also pseudothecia) are documented and described. An addendum deals with five atypical species, but which on account of literature data may be related. The following new taxa are proposed: Phoma acuta subsp. errabunda (Desm.) comb. nov. (teleomorph Leptosphaeria doliolum subsp. errabunda subsp. nov.), Phoma acuta subsp. acuta f. sp. phlogis (Roum.) comb. nov., Phoma congesta spec. nov. and Phoma vasinfecta spec. nov. Detailed keys and indices on host-fungus and fungus-host relations are provided and short comments on the ecology and distribution of the taxa are given. |

Eighteen taxa in section Phoma with conidia usually shorter than 5.5 µm are keyed out and described on account of their characteristics in vitro. Two taxa from section Sclerophomella are added because they have very similar characters in vitro. The following new binomials have been proposed: Phoma dictamnicola Boerema, de Gruyter & Noordel., nom. nov., Phoma dorenboschii Noordel. & de Gruyter, spec. nov., Phoma minutispora P.N. Mathur, nom. nov., and Phoma opunticola Boerema, de Gruyter & Noordel., spec. nov. Hostfungus and fungus-host indices are provided and short comments on the ecology and distribution of the taxa are given. |
