Careful inventory work and an improving knowledge of difficult genera led to the discovery of new localities for a number of interesting species like Potamogeton coloratus, Hypericum canadense, Carex flava, Callitriche hermaphroditica, Dryopteris pseudomas and Bromus benekenii. Two new hybrids are reported: Dryopteris x tavelii (all former reports being erroneous) and Carex x tornabenii (= C. distorts x extensa). The neophytes Ajuga pyramidalis and Apera interrupta are now considered to belong to the Dutch flora. Reported for the first time are Bupleurum gerardii and Pastinaca sativa subsp. wens. Puccinellia rupestris and Silene gallica are not extinct. Of Oenanthe crocata, first discovered in 1975, two new localities are found. |

The list of new localities of rare species and interesting records of more common species found in the Netherlands mainly during 1980, has been subdivided in three categories: A. Netherlands species; B. Adventitious species; C. Species escaped from cultivation. Additions and new records of taxa inserted in the first part of the Atlas of the Netherlands Flora will be published separately. Category A includes the species — also naturalised ones — belonging to the Netherlands flora, as established by the Floristic Council in 1975 and inserted in the Standard List of the Netherlands Flora 1975. In list A comments have been added, where necessary; adventitious records of Netherlands species are indicated with adv., escapes from cultivation with verw. The names... |

Apera interrupta (L.) Beauv. was found in 1984 in the province of Zeeland (Rammegors) in a rather natural habitat on sandy soil. In 1986 the species was also discovered in the province of Limburg (in Kerkrade). Until then A. interrupta was considered to be an adventitious species only. From a study of herbarium specimens it appeared that the species had been recorded previously in 1943 and 1958 in the province of Zuid-Holland (Leiden). Recently it turned out to be still present at both localities (a railway-embankment and a former railway). As the number of records has increased significantly – since 1943 the species has been recorded in 10 hour-squares among which nine new localities near Amsterdam in 1988 – it is argued that the Netherlands, just like... |

In the list of new records of rare species the categories ‘adventitious species’ and ‘species escaped from cultivation’ are no longer kept separate from the Dutch species. Species which are purposedly introduced as seeds (for oil or birds) or fruit (for human consumption) are no longer regarded as adventitious and are not mentioned any more in the list. Only true adventitious species are mentioned when at least ten localities are known within the last 15 years. The same holds true for species escaped from cultivation. Interesting new records are mentioned of Lycopodium tristachyum and L. annotinum, of various ferns in the IJsselmeerpolders, of Herminium monorchis. Orchis morio and Schoenus nigricans; Apium repens is not yet extinct; new records of... |

This North American/East Asian taxon has been sown on a road verge in Leiden as a component of a commercial mixture of grass seeds from so-called ‘wild species’. It is likely that it will have been sown elsewhere in the Netherlands, too. After having been deliberately introduced in North America, subsp. inermis appeared to hybridize spontaneously with native subsp. pumpellianus. Thus it is not unlikely that the reverse situation is to be expected in Europe. |

For the first time in 30 years is Dr. S. J. van Ooststroom no longer one of the composers of ‘the list’. We have made a comparison between his first list (in 1948) and his last (1978). The list of new localities of rare species and interesting records of the more common species found in the Netherlands mainly during 1979, has been subdivided into three categories: A. Netherlands species; B. Adventitious species; C. Species escaped from cultivation. As the first part of the Atlas of the Netherlands Flora has appeared, additions and new records of taxa inserted in this atlas will be published separately. Category A includes the species – also naturalised ones – belonging to the Netherlands Flora, as established by the Floristic Council in 1975 and inserted... |

Quite a number of new records are the results of the improving floristic knowledge, for instance the new records of Carex buxbaumii and other Carex species, of Alchemilla species etc. On the other hand many new records may be due to flora falsification; it is uncertain, for instance, whether the six new records of Trientalis europaea are (all) natural. The list contains many new records of rare plants from railways, due to specialized inventory work; interesting discoveries are Alyssum alyssoides, Apera interrupta, Herniaria hirsuta, Hippocrepis comosa, and Linaria supina. Poa chaixii has been discovered on a new locality which possibly is an outpost of the natural area. The list also contains some species which might be included in a future edition of the... |
