Engineering parameters of the bed planter and the inclined plate planter for bed planting, minimum tillage, strip tillage and conventional tillage cum hand planting methods were estimated at Gazipur. Field tests of the machines for different tillage practices were conducted at Gazipur, Pabna, and Barisal. Field tests were conducted with four treatments: Bed planting with inclined plate seed metering, minimum tillage with inclined plate planter, strip tillage with inclined plate planter and conventional tillage and hand planting. All the treatments were replicated thrice with RCB design. The planter was tested for sowing maize, wheat and mungbean during 2012-13. Bed planting, minimum tillage and strip till methods required 26%, 30% and 57% less energy and... |

Bangladesh is in the phase of introducing drip irrigation (DI) system in the country. Several types of drip emitters are now becoming available in the market although their performance indices are yet to be matched for local farming practices. This study reports the results of a series of experiments carried out to quantify the hydraulic performances indices of two different types of emitters available in Bangladeshi marketplace. One of the emitters, E1 was designed and manufactured locally, while the other, E2 was imported and highly priced. Followed by the hydraulic experiment, these emitters were also employed in comparative field experiments for tomato and brinjal production at two separate locations in the country. Irrigation schedules were designed... |

Hand peeling of maize is common practice before shelling in Bangladesh. The main problems of hand peeling are that these require more time and increase labour cost. A maize peeling machine has been designed and fabricated in Farm Machinery and Postharvest Process Engineering Divisional workshop, BARI, Gazipur during 2016-2017 which reduce the human power in peeling operation of maize. This maize peeler can be very helpful for medium and small scale farmer. Two rubber and two spiral rollers were used for peeling of cobs. The functional parts of the machine are hopper, spiral roller and rubber roller. For the peeling operation moisture content of maize cobs were taken 20%- 24% (w b). The peeling capacities of the manual and power peelings were 87 kg/h and... |
