| Supporters claim that entrepreneurship is critical to building and sustaining the regional economies of urban and rural areas across the nation. Proponents argue that economic development practices that enhance and support entrepreneurship are essential because they cultivate innovation which, in turn, creates new jobs, new wealth, and a better quality of life. However, South Carolina’s real self-employed per capita income has decreased over the last decade. This downward trend highlights the need to examine the drivers of entrepreneurial income. | The green industry comprises the production and marketing of woody ornamentals, greenhouse, and turfgrass-related products, and landscape and horticultural services. The industry is market oriented with prospects for future growth. Many state trade organizations have become interested in better measurement of the industry's economic contribution. The contribution of major industry sectors to the Louisiana economy are quantified with a state input-output model. Also presented are study results that are mainly based on readily available data sources. Results suggest that the state industry made a strong contribution to economic activity comparable in size to that of other major agricultural commodities. |

| Social pressures to regulate agriculture's use of environmental resources have been building for many years and show no signs of abating. While the agricultural and environmental communities can react to these events in many ways, perhaps the most promising avenue for resolving joint agricultural and environmental disputes lies with negotiated regulations mediated by governmental agencies. When first conceived by Commons, negotiated regulation was seen as a way to achieve both efficient and equitable dispute resolution by directly using the preferences, skills, and operational knowledge of stakeholders. | The objective of this study is to measure and analyze the effects of structural change in the agribusiness sector on parish economies in Louisiana. Specific objectives are: (1) to measure changing patterns of employment in Louisiana's agribusiness sector, (2) to analyze the impacts of structural change on the contribution of agribusiness to total employment in individual parishes, and (3) to identify any rural-to-urban or urban-to-rural shifts in the geographic location of employment resulting from structural changes in agribusiness industries. |
