Variation in the abundance of Rhopalosiphum padi in Finland Organic Eprints
Huusela-Veistola, E..
The bird cherry-oat aphid, Rhopalosiphum padi (L.), is the major aphid pest in spring cereals in Finland. It is also the vector of Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) which is the most serious virus disease of cereals. The Finnish forecast of R. padi is based on egg counts on the winter host. The effects of no-tillage on aphid abundance have been variable.

Climate change and range shift of Igutettix oculatus Organic Eprints
Huusela-Veistola, E.; Söderman, G..
The leafhopper Igutettix oculatus (Lindberg) is a new arrival in Finnish fauna. I. oculatus has adapted to live on lilacs Syringa sp. The nymphs and adults feed sap on the underside of the lilac leaves and can cause substantial discoloration. Although yellowing of leaves seems to cause no harm to the growth of the lilacs, cosmetic damage and reduction of market value are obvious.

Application of arable weeds as an indicator for the sustainability of agriculture Organic Eprints
Hyvönen, T.; Huusela-Veistola, E.; Salonen, J..
Despite the benefits of organic cropping for the biodiversity its significance remained minor due to small acreage. Weed species were shown to differ in their importance to other organisms associated with farmland. Indicator based on these differences proved to be applicable in the assessment of the long-term changes in weed populations, enabling the interpretation of the ecological importance of the changes.

Potential alien invertebrate pests in Finland Organic Eprints
Saikkonen, K.; Huusela-Veistola, E.; Korpela, S.; Laitinen, P.; Markkula, I.; Nissinen, A.; Tiilikkala, K.; Tuovinen, T.; Worner, S.; Vänninen, I..
Climate change is assumed to benefit Finnish agriculture by extending the thermal growing season and by milder winters in future. While providing opportunities for Finnish field crop production as new crop species and larger scale use of winter-sown crops, climate change is also amongst the most important global driving forces promoting pest species invasion and establishment into new ranges.
