| Before my departure to Java I intended to give a monographic revision of the Neuropteroidea of Insulinde, but want of time and of sufficient materials forced me to give up this intention and I restricted it to the monographic revision of the MECOPTERA and PLANIPENNIA, the two orders I studied with special attention since 3 years in behalf of the „Catalogue des collections du baron E. de Sélys Lougchamps”. The territories that I name Insulinde are the Dutch colonies of the malayan and papuan archipelago. I describe also the species known from those parts of Borneo and New Guinea, that do not belong to the dutch possessions, as they very probably also will occur in them. Those of neighbouring countries are noted so far as they are important for comparison. |

| Die bereits früher von Herrn Dr. F. SCHIMMER geäusserte Vermutung 1), dass die von mir bei Prenolepis longicornis LATR. in Java (Djocjakarta) aufgefundene Gryllide zu der Art Myrmecophila americana SAUSS. (prenolepidis WASM.) gehöre, hat sich bei näherer Untersuchung als richtig herausgestellt. Genannter Herr schrieb mir darüber folgendes: „Die von Ihnen zur Bestimmung übersandte Art ist zweifellos Myrmecophila americana SAUSS., also keine neue Species. Sie weist alle typischen Merkmale der Stammart auf. Ich vermute, dass sie mit ihrer Wirtsameise, Prenolepis longicornis LATR., in Java eingewandert ist. Dieser Fund erweitert das Gebiet, in welchen M. americana vorkommt, denn sie wurde von GOELDI in Brasilien, von ASSMUTH in Indien gefunden. Ich habe 5 ♂ ♂... |

| In dem Bande XXV (1905), Note IX (pp. 133—140), teilte ich einen Brief von Herrn Edw. Jacobson über das Spinnvermögen von Polyrhachis dives Sm. (Java) mit. Seither hat Doflein im Biolog. Centralblatt, 1905, N°. 15 (S. 497— 507) interessante Detailbeobachtungen darüber geboten, wie Oecophylla smaragdina F. auf Ceylon die zerrissenen Gespinnstnester mittelst ihrer Larven wieder zusammenspinnt, die sie dabei als „Spinnrädchen” gebraucht. Dadurch sind Ridley’s und Holland’s ältere Beobachtungen für diese Ameise vollauf bestätigt worden. Ueber dasselbe Verfahren bei der australischen „grünen Baumameise” Oecophylla virescens F.) berichtete Dodd 1) aus Australien schon 1902.
