We investigate the water entry and water exit phenomena experimentally and theoretically. We propose an experimental technique based on the use of transparent mockups and tangential LED lighting systems. This technique makes it possible to follow the contact surface during both the entry and exit phases. We show its feasbiliy for flat plates (square, circular disc, ellipse) and three-dimensional bodies (cone, sphere). The hydrodynamic force evolutions measured during the experiments are compared to numerical simulations (CFD) and to analytical results based on the modified Logvonovich model (MLM). |
