Evaluation of presence of a putative multidrug efflux pump gene (norM) in Leptospira spp. strains from bovine origin MV&Z
Malliagros, L. V.; Correia, L.; Pires, B. C.; Brasil, T.; Carvalho-Costa, F. A.; Jaeger, L. H.; Lilenbaum, W..
Leptospirosis in livestock is associated with large economic losses. In order to minimize these losses, different control strategies have been applied, including antibiotic therapy. Besides, failure of antibiotic therapy may be related to reduced susceptibility and the presence of genes associated with antimicrobial resistance.

Molecular comparison of four virulence-related genes in leptospiral strains of icterohaemorrhagiae serogroup MV&Z
Correia, L.; Malliagros, L. V.; Pires, B. C.; Brasil, T.; Jaeger, L. H.; Carvalho-Costa, F. A.; Lilenbaum, W..
Pathogenesis of leptospirosis is related to agent characteristics as well the ability to escape immune system of the host. However, the leptospires biology and virulence factors are not enough characterized and the factors for the pathogenesis and that trigger the development of the disease are still unclear.

Phylogenetical inferences of five isolates of Leptospira of swine based on 16s and secY genes MV&Z
Bastos, C. R.; Marulanda, N. D. F.; Jaeger, L. H.; Miranda, V. F. O.; Lilenbaum, W.; Mathias, L. A..
Leptospirosis is a zoonosis responsible for economic and health damage in swine herds. The cultivation and typing of leptospire strains present in one region are still an important subject to bring knowledge for disease control.

Expression of three virulence-related genes in leptospiral strains of serogroup sejroe after weekly subcultures MV&Z
Correia, L.; Malliagros, L. V.; Brasil, T.; Pires, B. C.; Jaeger, L. H.; Carvalho-Costa, F. A.; Lilenbaum, W..
Bovine leptospirosis is characterized mainly by reproductive problems associated with infections by strains of serogroup Sejroe. Pathogenic strains belonging to same serogroup could present differences in pathogenicity, suggesting existence of unknown molecular mechanisms involved in virulence. Furthermore, it is known that subculture of strains can lead to attenuation of virulence by changes in protein coding genes.
