Brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stål), is a major insect pest of rice in Thailand.Because of their ability to adapt to host plant and environment, the BPH becomes an extremely destructive pest and difficult to control. The purpose of this research is to monitor the insecticide resistance of BPH in North Eastern (NE) Thailand. The BPH populations were collected from the outbreak areas in 9provinces during 2011 to 2012. The toxicity (LD50) of 10 insecticides was conducted using Topical bioassay method. The results showed that the BPH populations from 7 provinces were resistant to ethiprole and isoprocarb. The NongBua Lam Phu population was the widest spectrum of resistance to the tested insecticides, whereas, the BPH population from Sisaket was...

เพลี้ยกระโดด Tagosodes pusanus (distant): แมลงศัตรูข้าวชนิดใหม่ในภาคเหนือตอนบนของประเทศไทย Thai Agricultural
Jintana Chaiwong; Wantana Sriratanasak; Sukanya Arunmit; Urassaya Boonpramook.
Tagosodes pusanus (Distant) is one of the planthopper species, which has been reported as a minor insect pest in Thailand in 2000. The morphology of T. pusanus closely resembles the whitebacked planthopper, Sogatella furcifera (Horvath). However, it could be distinguished by the pattern of the dark markers of its forewings, pale yellow pronotum in the middle of the segment, color of the clypeus, and shapes and number of spines of aedeagus. The population dynamic of T. pusanus was studied by sampling in the rice fields using D-vac and Blower-vac sucking machines. The results showed that the number of T. pusanus was higher than S. furcifera at heading stages of the rice plants in Nakhon Nayok province in 2011. The relationship between the numbers of two...

Brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvatar lugens (Stål) is an important insect pest of irrigated rice cultivation areas in lower north, central and northeast Thailand. The field experiments were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of nine insecticides include buprofezin 25% WP, buprofezin 5% + isoprocarb 20% WP, etofenprox 20% EC, ethiprole 10% SC, dinotefuran 10% WP, pymetrozine 50% WG, sulfoxaflor 50% WG, carbosulfan 20% EC and clothianidin 16% SG to control BPH in farmers’ fields at Suphan Buri, Nakhon Nayok and Ubon Ratchathani provinces. The results showed that the sulfoxaflor 50% WG and pymetrozine 50% WG which are new class insecticides, were the most effective insecticides that showed BPH control efficacy of 40-80% whilst the other insecticides which...

Sampling arthopod by D-vac sucking machine in seedling, tillering, booting and heading stages. Results showed that the most of arthropod are natural enemies species more than pest species. Shannon-Wiener diversity index in the ecological engineering plots had increased where as the control plots had decreased. It found that, planting the flowering plants around the bund could be increased the arthropod in the paddy field. Especially planting the flowers could increased the number of predators and...

The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens (Stål), is one of the most serious insect pest of irrigated rice in the central and lower areas of Northern Thailand. In upper North of Thailand, the first and serious outbreak was found during year 2011 and 2012. The misused insecticide over a period of time with extensive and intensive application is causing BPH outbreak. Therefore, the goal of this research was to monitor the insecticide resistance of BPH in the Northern, Thailand. BPH were collected from 12 outbreak fields of the Northern region namely: Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Nan, Phrae, Tak, Phetchabun, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Nakhon Sawan and Uthai Thani between the periods of 2010 to 2012. The toxicological tests (LD50) of...

The ratios of BPH/mirid bug (MB) in the buprofezin and pymetrozine fields were lower than other fields, which may indicate the less toxicity to MB compared with other insecticides. Moreover, toxicity of each insecticide to MB was investigated using a leaf dipping method and the result indicated that pymetrozine 50 % WG was the lowest toxicity to...

Main Factors affecting brown planthopper (BPH) outbreaks in the Central region from past up to now are cultivations of susceptible rice varieties and misused insecticide application. The aim of this research was to prove the misused of insecticide application in the hot spot area causing BPH severe outbreak. One hundred to one hundred fifty farmers from six provinces: Nakhon Nayok, Suphan Buri, Ang Thong, Chai Nat, Phitsanulok and Nonthaburi were interviewed during August to November 2010. The result found 56.5 to 100 percent of farmer sprayed insecticide for two to six times/seasons. Most farmers applied insecticide, especially Abamectin as cocktails mixed with two to six types of fungicides and/or herbicides. Most farmers were sprayed insecticide when...

Light trap is an important tool to forecast and warn of many rice insect pests outbreak. The aim of this research was to find the relationship of BPH density from light traps which collected from Prachin Buri Rice Research Center and rice fields in Nakhon Nayok province. For developing outbreak forecasting system in Nakhon Nayok. Selected locations in Nakhon Nayok were Mueang district (Moo 1, Tha Sai and Moo 7, Tha Chang) Ongkharak district, (Moo 5, Srisa Krabue and Moo 1, Bueng San) and Ban Na district. (Moo 12, Ban Phrik) which daily collected from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm (January 2013 to October 2014).
