| ばんえい競馬において，第2障害越えの成否は競走 結果に大きな影響を及ぼす.本研究では，ばんえい競 走馬が第2障害を登坂するときの運動の特徴を数値化 し，それらの値と競走結果との関係を検討した.延べ 37頭の競走馬について登坂運動時のフォームをデジ タルビデオカメラで録画した.画像解析プログラムを 用い馬体水平線と胴引との角度を求め(胴引き角度)， その角度から馬の腰の上下運動を数値化した.競走結 果(競走タイム，着順，登坂時間，登坂順位)に影響 を及ぼす要因として，登板時の停止の有無，歩法(常 歩 : 駈歩)，および胴引き角度(18.3度以上 : 以下)と 年齢(2歳 : 3歳以上)の交互作用について分析した. その結果，登坂時に停止しない馬の競走結果が良く， また2歳馬においては胴引き角度の大きい(腰の高い) 馬が，一方3歳以上の馬においては胴引き角度の小 さい(腰の低い)馬の競走結呆が良い傾向が示された. 2歳馬と3歳以上の馬で異なる結果が示されたのは， ばんえい重量が登坂運動時のフォームに影響を及ぼ し，さらにそれが競走結果にも影響するためではない かと推察した. |

| The body size and weight of 584 Banei draft racehorses at Obihiro Racing Stable in Hokkaido, Japan, was investigated. Almost all the animals (94.7%) were cross-breed heavy draft horses; there were a few Percheron and Percheron grade (4.8%) and a Belgian breed (0.5%). The ages of the animals ranged from 2 to 10 years. Males accounted for 80.3%, females for 17.5%, and 2.2% were castrated. The mean body measurements of 2-year-old Banei draft racehorses were significantly smaller than those of the 3-to 4-year-old or 5-to 10-year-old horses. Hip width, croup width, and rump length of females were greater than those of males. In contrast, males had greater chest width and cannon bone circumference than females. | This study evaluated the possibility of decreasing defecation in a bedding area by inducing a heifer to visit a feeding station within a few minutes or immediately after standing. An experimental paddock (11.3 x 6 .8m) was made outdoors. Half of the paddock was roofed and bedded with straw to form a resting area. A feeding station was situated in the remaining area of the paddock，which was designated as the feeding area. Six Holstein heifers，the test subjects，were grouped together in the paddock.
