| This book is the result of the longterm monitoring that integrated studies in hydrochemistry, hydrobiology and ichthyology conducted by the Institute of Biology of the Southern Seas (IBSS), National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, near the shores of the Crimean peninsula. Surveys were carried out in the Karkinit Gulf and the inshore sea of Cape Tarkhankut, in the coastal zone and some bays of Sevastopol and at Cape Martyan (Black Sea), in the sea at Cape Kazantip and in the Eastern Sivash Gulf (Sea of Azov), six locations altogether. The habitats and environmental features typical of each of the regions are sketched.
