Testing of Suitability of Ideotype and Varieties of Wheat for Organic and Low Input Agriculture Organic Eprints

The methodology takes the different ideotype of plant that´s suitable for the environment-friendly farming systems into account. Evaluation of Environmental Impacts of Organic Farming by LCA method - Greenhouse Gases from Corn Production Organic Eprints

Organic farming is perceived as a system with a number of positive impacts on all components of the environment. For more precise assessment of differences in environmental impacts of conventional and organic farming, we need to be able to measure and quantify such impacts. For this the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) method may be used as a tool. Among other, the LCA method is also an invaluable tool for assessing GHG emissions related to agricultural production. Systems of farming and rural landscape in Czech Republic Organic Eprints

The contemporary state of farming has been evaluated and organic and conventional farming systems have been compared in the framework of the analysis of structure of farming in the Czech republic. The selective group of 437 associations, consisted of 3 subgroups, is divided into several categories according to the farming method and altitude. Parametres of plant and animal production and use of the agroenvironmental programmes and measures are evaluated. The evaluation of the structure of farming permits to find optimal possibilities of future development of conventional and organic farming in the Czech republic and of arrangements of the settings of grants and subsidies.

Spring forms of spelt landraces (Triticum spelta L.) and their suitability for Organic Farming Organic Eprints

Organic farmers are interested in the growing of spring spelt wheat forms (Triticum spelta L.). Therefore, the important agronomical characteristics and baking quality of six spring spelt wheat landraces were studied and evaluated. The studied and evaluated cultivars were inclined to lodging and wheat diseases. Their yield rate is determined by the length of the spike and the weight of one thousand grains. The grain yield and the crude protein yield per hectare achieved the same level in organic farming. The spring spelt wheat forms stand out in high protein content and wet gluten content; the gluten was, nevertheless, weaker and less swollen.

Kvalita pšenice v ekologickém zemědělství Organic Eprints

Celosvětově rostoucí trend rozvoje ekologického zemědělství i výroby biopotravin je patrný zejména v posledním desetiletí. Roste zájem spotřebitelů o zdravé potraviny s dobrou výživovou hodnotou a důraz je kladen na přírodní původ potravin a nabídku výrobků prostých umělé chemie. Je důležité si uvědomit, že biovýrobky neznamenají pouze potravinářské produkty vyrobené bez uměle přidávaných chemických látek, ale značka bio především zaručuje spotřebiteli, že výrobek byl zpracován způsobem, který nezatěžuje životní prostředí. Obecně je u bioproduktů méně důležitá kvalita produkce než kvalita výrobní, kdy jsou jasně vymezena pravidla pěstování.

Posklizňová úprava, skladování a zpracování rostlinných bioproduktů Organic Eprints

Odborná monografie se zabývá problematikou posklizňové úpravy, skladování a zpracování rostlinných produktů v ekologickém zemědělství. Nejprve popisuje požadavky a postup při posklizňové úpravě produktů a to především u zrnin a okopanin. V další části se potom věnuje podmínkám a zásadám pro jejich skladování. Pozornost je věnována zásadám, které je nutné dodržovat při zpracování bioproduktů a při jejich přepravě. Monografie zahrnuje zásady i příklady omezení, které platí při produkci biopotravin na bázi rostlinných surovin obecně či při zpracování přímo na farmě.

Ekologičtí zemědělci hospodařící na orné půdě mají často zájem o využití opomíjených plodin, jako jsou pluchaté pšenice (jednozrnka, dvouzrnka a špalda), některé další obilniny (nahý oves a ječmen) a nebo pseudoobilniny (pohanka apod.). V současnosti chybí dostatek informací o výběru odrůd, získání osiva a jejich agrotechnice jak v odborné literatuře, tak v povědomí zemědělců.

Emmer wheat using and growing in the Czech Republic Organic Eprints

Emmer wheat [(Triticum dicoccum Schrank (Schuebl)] is after bread, durum and spelt wheat further species of wheat used for economic purposes. Organic farmers and producers have become more and more interested in marginal crops such as the tetraploid emmer wheat because of its suitability for organic farming. In spite of its historical role, present distribution of emmer is very limited. The work analyzes the problem of growing possibilities of emmer and its suitability for cultivation in organic farming. Evaluation of emmer wheat genetics resources aimed at dietary food production Organic Eprints

Emmer wheat cultivated by organic farmers is used as a component of some bio (organic) food products. Its positive influence on consumer health is caused by grain composition. In the set of 8 emmer wheat accessions, the main grain components, bread making characteristics and contents of health supporting chemical substances such as total dietary fibre content and its components, content of total polyphenols plus catechin and ferulic acid contents, vitamins of the B group and E plus total content of carotenoids were evaluated by standard methods.

Ancient Wheat Species Can Extend Biodiversity of Cultivated Crops Organic Eprints

Wheat genetic resources may be grown in organic farming systems or in less favourable areas for bread wheat species. Characteristics of hulled wheat species (23 varieties of einkorn, emmer wheat, spelt wheat) were studied and evaluated within a two-year trial period (which was executed on certified organic fields) and they were compared to characteristics of landraces and modern bread wheat varieties. The main aim of our study was to evaluate the potential uses of genetic resources of wheat in organic farming. The hulled wheat species were resistant to mildew and brown rust. Metodika přináší informace o aktuálním stavu v oblasti legislativy a vyuţití ekologicky certifikovaného osiva v ekologickém zemědělství. Pozornost je v první řadě věnována informačním zdrojům, ve kterých je možné nalézt informace o dostupnosti ekologicky certifikovaných osiv a možnostech jeho použití v produkci rostlin. Dále je uveden postup volby osiva, který je v souladu s platnou legislativou. Metodika by měla posloužit ekologicky hospodařícím zemědělcům jako jeden z rozhodovacích nástrojů při volbě osiva konkrétní odrůdy.

Agronomic characteristics of the spring forms of the wheat landraces (einkorn, emmer, spelt, intermediate bread wheat) grown in organic farming Organic Eprints

Organic farmers look to the possibilities of growing neglected crops, such as the spring forms of hulled wheat – einkorn, emmer and spelt – for support in developing the organic farming system. In 2008, 169 landraces from the gene bank at the Crop Research Institute in Prague were tested on certifi ed organic plots. The experiment was aimed at fi nding suitable varieties for the organic farming system. Sustainable agriculture has currently been considerably supported by the EU which positively affects development of organic farming in EU member states. Along with expansion of organic farming itself, importance of its production and non-production function rises as well. Both these functions are expected to be mutually balanced so as the organic farms were not focused on one-sided production. Nowdays, wheat is the most important crop for organic farming system. However, the varieties breeded and tested in the conditions of organic farming system are still missing. It gives rise to very low level of yield in the Czech Republic (less than 50% of level of convention one in the same conditions). Odborná monografie se zabývá problematikou ochrany rostlin proti škodlivým organismům v ekologickém zemědělství. Podává stručnou charakteristiku jednotlivých skupin škůdců, chorob i plevelů a udává hlavní příznaky poškození které hlavní skupiny škůdců a chorob způsobují. Hlavní část monografie se zabývá metodami regulace škodlivých činitelů. Publikace obsahuje i odkazy na další zdroje informací a podává přehled významných i potenciálně nebezpečných plevelů. Na závěr je uveden příklad regulace chorob, škůdců a plevelů v porostu pšenice v ekologickém systému hospodaření.

Pšenice špalda v ekozemědělství Organic Eprints

Pšenice špalda je již poměrně známou plodinou. Čeští zemědělci za uplynulých dvacet let získali určité zkušenosti s pěstováním ozimé formy. Diskutována je však otázka možností využití jarních forem tohoto druhu. Z tohoto důvodu příspěvek vychází z praxí osvědčených postupů pěstování ozimé formy pšenice špaldy v ekologickém zemědělství a je doplněn o doporučení pro pěstování jarních forem.

Soubor genetických zdrojů pšenice jednozrnky, dvouzrnky, jarní špaldy a přesívkových forem pšenice seté ze sbírek genobanky VÚRV Praha-Ruzyně, vypěstovaných v přesných polních pokusech v podmínkách ekologického systému tří pokusných lokalit (Praha-Ruzyně, Praha-Uhříněves a České Budějovice) byl hodnocen z pohledu obsahu N-látek v sušině zrna a zastoupení jednotlivých frakcí bílkovin zrna. Current situations in organic cereal seed offer in the Czech Republic Organic Eprints

Organic farmers are obliged, in compliance with the valid legislation, to use seed originating from the organic production when establishing the crop stands. In a survey we found certified organic cereal seed is used on 6 %, conventional untreated seed on 37 %, and farm seed on 57 % (of the organically farmed area in the Czech Republic). The main reasons for that are as follows: the insufficient surface of land intended for the reproduction of organic seed, the low proportion of accepted seed coming from the accepted reproduction surface.
