The scarab tribe Corythoderini is reviewed. All its members appear associated with termites, probably in a symphilous way; the host records all pertain to Odontotermes species. The known range of the Corythoderini falls within the range of the host genus : Africa to Burma. The phylogeny of the corythoderine genera is discussed. Comparative remarks on other termitophilous scarabs are added. The closest known relatives of the Corythoderini are the Termitoderini, trib. nov. The tribe Corythoderini is diagnosed, inter alia, by means of a key to the subfamilies and tribes of the Aphodiidae. The corythoderine genera are diagnosed and keyed. All the species are keyed, and the new species are described. The characters of the genera and of the species of the two... |

Seven species of the scarab genus Onthophagus Latreille are keyed and described. They are all characterized by the possession of large eyes (in full-face view), a feature possibly related to nocturnal habits. Traditionally these species are placed in Micronthophagus Balthasar, which is here argued to be a polyphyletic group. Five species are new: paroculus (Sumatra), setoculus (Sumatra), sideki (Sumatra, Borneo), phillippsorum (Borneo), collinsi (Borneo). Of two old species, O. drescheri Paulian and rotundicollis Lansberge, new records are given. |

A key to the Asian cremastochiliform genera is given. Three synonymies are emphasized: Clinterocera Motschulsky (= Callynomes Westwood); Campsiura Hope (= Macroma Gory & Percheron); Spilophorus Schaum (= Pseudospilophorus Kraatz). A new synonymy is: Periphanesthes Kraatz (= Bonsiella Ruter). The authorship of one species is established: Praona niveosparsa (Mohnike). The publication dates of Westwood's Thesaurus Entomologicus Oxoniensis are discussed. The type-material of the Leiden museum is listed; six lectotypes are designated. Two new species are described and illustrated: Campsiura celebensis (Sulawesi) and Parapilinurgus hiekei (Assam). |

Centrochilus howdeni gen. nov., sp. nov. (Mexico) is described and illustrated. Cyclidinus velutinus Westwood, the distribution of which appears to be Neotropical, is accommodated in Cyclidiellus gen. nov. A brief revised key to the New World genera of Cremastocheilini is given; Uloptera Burmeister is excluded, being Ethiopian, the new genera and the neglected Cyclidinus Westwood are included. |

The scarab fauna of dung from Dutch red deer and wild boar is recorded and discussed. Dung samples collected during four visits to the forested region South of Apeldoorn were extracted and numbers per species were counted (table 1). The samples contained one species new to the Netherlands (Aphodius zenkeri Germar), three species considered rare (A. maculatus Sturm, A. fasciatus Olivier, A. lividus Olivier), as well as 21 more common scarab species. Further Dutch records of these species and of A. corvinus Erichson are added. The distribution of these species and of some absent from the list is briefly discussed. A. zenkeri, maculatus, and fasciatus are thought to frequent shaded habitats because of a restricted drought tolerance. |

A revised key to the subfamilies, tribes and subtribes of the Cetoniidae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea) is presented. Comments are given on the classification implied by the key, which includes several redefinitions. All the known genera (ca. 510) are listed under their tribe or subtribe, the position of several being different from that in Schenkling's catalogues (1921, 1922). References to recent synoptic literature are given. Eighteen new subtribes are proposed, the majority in the tribe Cremastocheilini. One new tribe is proposed, the Platygeniini. Attention is drawn to various new and neglected synonymies, original spellings, and other nomenclatural matters regarding family-group and genus-group names. The position of many genera is briefly discussed.... |

The Afrotropical genus Dicronorhina Hope (= Dicranorrhina auctorum, unjustified emendation) is diagnosed and discussed. The characters of the species, subspecies and varieties are examined, and presented in a synoptic table and in an analytical key. An annotated checklist of the species, subspecies and varieties is given. Three species are recognized; in one species, five subspecies are recognized. Several varieties are discussed. Two new varietal names are proposed. A key to the genera of larger Afrotropical Goliathini with horned males is given. The phylogeny of the Dicronorhina species and their position among the other Afrotropical Coryphocerina is briefly discussed. |

About twenty years ago MARTÍNEZ proposed some new genera for the accommodation of a number of aberrant South American aphodiid beetles, until then placed in Euparia LePeletier & Serville. In 1951 he referred two species, Euparia costulata Harold and E. ovalis A. Schmidt, to his genus Lomanoxia, recognizable i.a. by having the sides of the elytra acutely inflexed. As these scarabs are exceedingly rare in collections, I was delighted at finding specimens referable to Lomanoxia among some material collected from the nests of leafcutting ants in Surinam; one represents a species new to science. My unsuccessful efforts to trace the type of Euparia costulata Harold in the Paris museum were compensated by the recovery of additional specimens of Lomanoxia, one... |

Two new genera, endemic in southwestern Africa, are diagnosed: Prototrupes, for Bolboceras copridoides Kolbe (type-species) and Bolboceras kochi Paulian; Namibiotrupes for Namibiotrupes penrithae sp. nov. The species of Prototrupes are keyed, illustrated, and some new material is recorded. Namibiotrupes penrithae from the Namib Desert Park is described and illustrated. The two genera are characterized by enlarged antennal clubs. |

The genus Bolbelasmus Boucomont is diagnosed. The Oriental and Palaearctic species are keyed. A checklist of the world species and subspecies is given. Two new species are described : Bolbelasmus meridionalis (Indonesia, China, Thailand, Vietnam) and B. nativus (Taiwan). The other Asian species are discussed and their distribution is recorded. A subspecific differentiation is suggested for the North African B. bocchus (Erichson). |
