Brazil is home to 37 genera of palm trees that participate in the ecologicalbalance of different biomes. In the southern region there is a genus of palm tree, Butia spp., which has eight species, and is threatened with extinction. Butiá extractivism, through management that allows its rational exploration, can be an alternative to encourage its preservation. The aim of this article is to present a diagnosis of the extraction of butia plant in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, providing systematized data about this reality. The first stage of the research consisted of a survey on thenumber of properties that have areas of butia groves throughout the state, through Emater-RS. Based on these data, it was possible to define a statistically representative sample,... |

Rational breeding of stingless bees (or meliponines) is called meliponiculture. In Brazil, studies related to meliponiculture are recent, developed with regional bees. The objective of the study was to elaborate a diagnosis of meliponiculture in Rio Grande do Sul. The data were collected in two stages, the first, through a survey carried out with the extension technicians Emater-RS, and the second, with data collected in a statistically significant sample from the beekeepers. The results show that there are 16,209 families involved in the activity, which have stingless bee hives in their establishment; the number of meliponine hives on rural properties in the state is 80,054 thousand, predominantly in the Northwest mesoregion. The profile of beekeepers is... |
