| The population control of dogs and cats is a public healthconcern. This report describes the activities of the AcademicExtension of the College of Agricultural and VeterinarySciences of UNESP in Jaboticabal/SP - Brazil aimed at surgicalsterilization of stray dogs and cats, with social actionsrelated to teaching and research. In 2007, the first yearof the project, 129 pets were sterilized, whereas in 2014,between January and October, 1538 animals were sterilized,which shows the increase in program acceptance by thelocal community. | A dor é definida como “a experiência sensorial e/ou emocional desagradável associada a um dano tecidual ou potencial. A utilização do Cateter Epidural (CE) é uma das ferramentas mais importantes para controle e alívio da dor pós-operatória. Foi atendido no Hospital Veterinário Governador Laudo Natel (Unesp), em Jaboticabal, (SP), um cão da raça labrador, com nove anos de idade, pesando 45 Kg, classificado como ASA IV. O paciente foi encaminhado ao setor de cirurgia de pequenos animais, quando foi diagnosticada ruptura de bexiga, sendo o mesmo direcionado ao Serviço de Anestesiologia para avaliação e preparo cirúrgico. | Casos de ruptura traqueal são raros, no entanto representam potencial risco de vida aos pequenos animais, sendo considerados casos emergenciais. A eficiência na detecção precoce dos sinais clínicos e estabilização do paciente com uso de técnicas terapêuticas adequadas são de fundamental importância para a sobrevida do animal. Relato de Caso: Um cão foi apresentado com enfi sema subcutâneo por todo o corpo; com histórico de briga com outro cão há 4 dias, todavia não havia escoriações no corpo do paciente. Clinicamente apresentava-se com taquipneia e leve cianose; no exame radiográfico visibilizou-se enfi sema subcutâneo e pneumotórax leve.
