| This document presents a comparative assessment of six triennal analysis carried out between 1986 and 2002, on 1300 boats, on average, from the 35 ports of Southern Bay of Biscay fishing fleets (from Loire river to Spanish border). Fisheries statistics allow the identification of different fishing practices and fishing boats associated with them within the fleets. In order to allow comparison and analysis of the evolution that has taken place during the study period, the same variables (gears used, landed species) and multivariate analysis procedures have been used to produce groupings of vessels. | Regular flights over the Bay of Biscay by the French Customs Air Service, have enabled us to record more precisely, from 1989 to 1995, the geographical locations of French and other European Community (EU) fishing boats. Data showed three main 'metiers' within the Bay of Biscay fishing fleet: French and Spanish bottom trawlers (61 %), French gill-netters and Spanish longliners: More than 80 % of gill-netters worked inside the territorial sea (12 nautical miles) and 60 % of them worked south of Noirmoutier (47 degrees N). Longliners moved according to the seasons, from the edge of the continental shelf to the 50-100 m sounding lines. | In 2008, were recorded for the first time Derichthys serpentinus in the Bay of Biscay, Kyphosus sectator in the Pays basque, Liparis montagui in the Charente-Maritime, Boops boops in Normandy. Some juveniles of Dentex dentex were observed in the bassin d'Arcachon in 2007 and 2008. We indicated also the catches of Tetragonurus cuvieri, Callionymus reticulatus, Seriola rivoliana and Brama brama. |

| Depuis une vingtaine d'années, l'Ifremer organise des campagnes de pêche scientifique en mer du Nord, Manche, Atlantique et Méditerranée concernant les ressources pélagiques, démersales et benthiques. L'objectif prioritaire est de produire des indices d'abondance des principales espèces commerciales. Elles recueillent également des données sur les espèces capturées non commerciales. Les campagnes sont réalisées selon des plans d'échantillonnage standardisés. L'engin de pêche et son gréement, la position des stations, le tri des captures, les prélèvements biologiques suivent des protocoles fixés. | Striped red mullet (Mullus surmuletus) belongs to the species for which individualization of stocks is advanced by ICES in western Europe for areas including the Bay of Biscay and the areas bordering the Iberian peninsula. Since 2012, ICES has provided recommendations with regards to this stock. These recommendations are given for two years and are based on an approach adopted by ICES in 2012 in the case of insufficient data for an analytical evaluation (Data Limited Stocks, DLS). For 2013 and 2014, ICES advice consisted in a 20% reduction in catches (average of the last 3 years:- 2009-2011) as a precautionary measure. | The European contract PECOSUDE (Small inshore fisheries of the south of Europe) accepted in 2000 for 2 years concerns French partners (IFREMER, GEOLITTOMER and CEMAGREF), Spanish (AZTI, UPV and IEO) and Portuguese (IPIMAR). For the renegotiation of the PCP in 2002, the aim is to assess the inshore and estuarian fisheries from the Loire to the Portugal. Three levels of study are considered : halieutics (data 1999), socio-economy and marketing (in progress). | A large number of studies on common sole have already been done for years by many research laboratories. This study sought to make a focus on a major nursery on the Atlantic coast, the Pertuis charentais, through the results of eight annual surveys (2005-2012) in late summer (SOLe PERtuis) targeting sole juveniles with a small beam trawl until subtidal zone (<1.50 m). | The integration of fishing management into the ecosystemic approach has been recommended for many years by international consultative bodies; it is also written into international conventions and agreements. The implementation of the ecosystemic approach involves the development of programmes for monitoring exploited ecosystems in order to measure the effects of management steps. Plotting the results of these observations for operational reasons requires formalizing summary performance indicators. IFREMER has carried out halieutic observation campaigns for some twenty years along the coasts of France from oceanographic ships and chartered ships.
