Effect of deltamethrin on germination and virulence of Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. on Triatoma infestans (Klug) Anais da SEB
Alzogaray,Raul; Luz,Christian; Silva,Ionizete G.; Lecuona,Roberto E.; Tigano,Myrian S..

Temperature-dependent development of the entomopathogenic fungus Nomuraea rileyi (Farlow) Samson in Anticarsia gemmatalis (Hübner) larvae (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Neotropical Entomology
Edelstein,Julio D.; Trumper,Eduardo V.; Lecuona,Roberto E..
The influence of temperature on the development rate of the entomopathogenic fungus Nomuraea rileyi (Farlow) Samson in Anticarsia gemmatalis (Hübner) 3rd-instar larvae was studied under constant temperature regimes. A non linear model was used to describe temperature-dependent vegetative and reproductive development rates of the fungus. The temperature required to reach the highest vegetative development rate was estimated to be 25.5ºC while lower and upper developmental thresholds were 11ºC and 30ºC, respectively. The rate of development for conidia release was stable from 18ºC to 26ºC. The estimated lower and upper thresholds of vegetative development coincide with conditions during the natural epizootics in central Argentina. Non-linear effects of...

Effect of constant and cyclical temperatures on the mortality of Triatoma infestans (Klug) (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) treated with Beauvaria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. (Hyphomycetes) Neotropical Entomology
Lecuona,Roberto E.; Rodriguez,Juana; La Rossa,Francisco R..
The mortality of Triatoma infestans (Klug) treated with Beauvaria bassiana (Bals.) Vuill. under several temperature regimes was analyzed. Mortality rates were highest at 26ºC and 22ºC and lowest at constant 34ºC. The combinations 26/34ºC or 34/26ºC (12:12h cycles) were significantly different from the combinations 18/26ºC and 26/18ºC, showing that high temperatures (34ºC) affect mortality most significantly. The combinations also indicate that when an extreme high temperature is associated with an optimal temperature of 26ºC, the susceptibility of T. infestans to B. bassiana infection decreases. Exposure to extreme temperature (18ºC or 34ºC) associated with an optimal temperature of 26ºC in 8:8:8h cycles, reduces the mortality of T. infestans. In cycles of...

Selection of culture media and in vitro assessment of temperature-dependent development of Nomuraea rileyi Neotropical Entomology
Edelstein,Julio D.; Lecuona,Roberto E.; Trumper,Eduardo V..
In vitro development - radial growth and sporulation - of Nomuraea rileyi isolates from Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner and Plusiinae larvae was studied on four culture media: Sabouraud, maltose, agar and yeast - SMAY; SMAY plus rice extract - SMAYR; complete medium for N. rileyi - CMNr and maltose agar yeast with potato extract - MAYP. Their development on a selected medium (MAYP) was analysed at five temperatures. Two mathematical models were fitted to in vitro and in vivo temperature dependent radial growth rates and thermal requirements were estimated. The medium with potato and yeast extract induced the highest growth rate in most cases, while SMAY induced the lowest rates for the tested isolates. Estimated optimum temperatures for mycelium in vitro...

First colony of Stomoxys calcitrans (Diptera: Muscidae) successfully established under laboratory conditions in Argentina Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent.
Angulo Lewylle,Maricel; Lecuona,Roberto E..
The stable flies, Stomoxys calcitrans (L.) (Diptera: Muscidae), are blood-sucking insects that represent a serious problem not only because of their hematophagy and transmission of pathogens, but also because of their considerable economic impact in animal production. No colony of these insects exists in Argentina. The objectives of this work were to establish the first Stomoxys calcitrans colony in this country, and to standardize and report the duration of each stage under controlled laboratory conditions. The adult flies were successfully reared in a growth chamber (28 ± 1 ºC and 47 ± 1 %RH, under a 14 h light: 10 h dark photoperiod); whereas the immature stages were kept at 25 ± 2 ºC and natural light. The cycle from eggs to adult emergence lasted...
