Araújo,Lorena Cássia Gueiros de; Lins,Carol Vasconcelos; Lima,Georgina Agnelo de; Travassos,Rosana Maria Coelho; Lins,Carla Cabral dos Santos Accioly.
The aim of this study was to evaluate, by the use of clinical and radiographic records, the prevalence of internal resorption in anterior permanent teeth of patients from the Clinic of Specialization in Endodontics of Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil; related to the period of September of 2001 to June of 2007. 888 medical records from the archives of the clinic were analyzed. Among them 232 referred to anterior teeth. The presence and the location of the resorption were radiographically observed. The obtained results verified that the internal resorption was prevalent in 2.16% of the cases, with 0.86% located in coronal region, 0.44% in root region and 0.86% in both regions. We concluded that, despite of being a pathology of low incidence, the...

Anthropometric Measurements in Toothed and Toothless Maxillaries and its Consequences in Human Alveolar Bone Resorption International Journal of Morphology
de Oliveira,Jaciel Benedito; Almeida,Andrelle Nayara Cavalcanti Lima de; Lins,Carla Cabral dos Santos Accioly; Júnior,Adelmar Afonso de Amorim; Seixas,Zélia Albuquerque.
This study proposes to measure and compare anthropometric measurements between toothed and toothless maxillas. 26 human skulls were used with: 13 toothed and 13 toothless maxillas. The measurements were made between the distances of the alveolar ridge (AR): the anterior nasal spine (ANS), to the incisive foramen (FI) and the palatine foramen, greater (FPMA) and lower (FPME) on both sides by two evaluators. The data obtained showed that the average of the measurements were correspondingly higher in toothed maxillas than in toothless, for all measurements in any one of the evaluators. The AR-ANS (p = 0.001), IF-AR (p = 0.006), AR-FPMA right (p = 0.001) and AR-FPMA left (p <0.001) and AR-FPME on both sides (p = 0.001) demonstrating significant differences...

The aim of this study was to investigate and classify the internal morphology of the mesiobuccal root of upper first permanent molar, using the cone beam computed tomography. A total of 60 first permanent molars, not healthy and with intact pulp cavity, belonging to the Postgraduate dentistry bank, underwent the computed tomography. Axial images of each tooth were analyzed, and results showed that according to the number of conduits, 21 specimens (35%) had single conduit and 39 exhibited two conduits (65%). In reference to the types of internal configuration most commonly found according to Vertucci classification; type I (single channel that extends from the pulp chamber to the apex) was the most frequent (35%), followed by type II (two separate canals...

Variation in Clavicular Origin of Sternocleidomastoid Muscle International Journal of Morphology
Amorim Júnior,Adelmar Afonso de; Lins,Carla Cabral dos Santos Accioly; Cardoso,Ana Paula dos Santos; Damascena,Caroline Guimarães.
The sternocleidomastoid is a muscle with a great extension that occupies the cervical region and is extended obliquely from the head to the trunk. Its morphology is not uniform, once its ends are wide and slim while its medial edge is thick and narrow. The aim of our work was to relate a case of variation in clavicular origin of this muscle that was extended beyond the half of clavicle laterally, in both sides of the neck.

Anomalous Branch of Internal Pudendal Artery International Journal of Morphology
Amorim Júnior,Adelmar Afonso de; Amorim,Marleyne José Afonso Accioly Lins; Lins,Carla Cabral dos Santos Accioly; Alvim,Marconi Martins Simoes; Araújo,Felipe Purcell de; Queiroz,Nadieska Sales Araújo.
The ischiatic artery classically described as a branch of the inferior gluteal artery, is a long and thin vessel that is related to the ischiatic nerve. In a dissection was observed that this artery emerges from the internal pudendal artery with a caliber larger than the ones described in the literature. The knowledge of anatomical variations is important to the surgeons, radiologists and anatomists

Variation of Length of Styloid Process International Journal of Morphology
Lins,Carla Cabral dos Santos Accioly; Júnior,Adelmar Afonso de Amorim; Oliveira,Bruna Paloma de; Silva,Elma Mariana Verçosa de Melo; Torres,Raphaela Christianne Maia Soares.
The styloid process is a bony projection that arises from the tympanic portion of the temporal bone, and its elongation is considered an anomaly that may be related to calcification of the stylohyoid and stylomandibular ligaments, which can trigger a series of symptoms that characterize the Eagle's syndrome. The objective of this study was to report three cases of elongated styloid process seen in human skulls, trying to alert the dentists in the knowledge of this disease in order to include it in their diagnosis, associated with atypical facial pain or in the oral cavity of to facilitate better treatment for these cases.

Extraoral Ligature of Lingual Artery: Anatomic and Topographic Study International Journal of Morphology
Lins,Carla Cabral dos Santos Accioly; Cavalcanti,Jennecy Sales; do Nascimento,Daniela Lira.
The lingual artery constitutes one of the branches of the external carotid artery, which is responsible for the vascularization of the tongue and neighbour regions. The hemorrhage caused by a lesion of the lingual artery can occur during a dental procedure (surgical accidents by the use of an instrument or rotating disc), by trauma, biopsy and dental implant. In some cases is difficult to stop the hemorrhage of injured vase, so is necessary to realize the extraoral ligature of this artery. Hence, this work studied the anatomic aspects of the lingual artery, by forty-eight dissections of twenty-four corpses settled in formol 10%, aiming to detail the origin, pathway and anatomic relations of the lingual artery in the region of anterior trigone of the neck,...
