The aim of this study was to evaluate, by the use of clinical and radiographic records, the prevalence of internal resorption in anterior permanent teeth of patients from the Clinic of Specialization in Endodontics of Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil; related to the period of September of 2001 to June of 2007. 888 medical records from the archives of the clinic were analyzed. Among them 232 referred to anterior teeth. The presence and the location of the resorption were radiographically observed. The obtained results verified that the internal resorption was prevalent in 2.16% of the cases, with 0.86% located in coronal region, 0.44% in root region and 0.86% in both regions. We concluded that, despite of being a pathology of low incidence, the... |

This study proposes to measure and compare anthropometric measurements between toothed and toothless maxillas. 26 human skulls were used with: 13 toothed and 13 toothless maxillas. The measurements were made between the distances of the alveolar ridge (AR): the anterior nasal spine (ANS), to the incisive foramen (FI) and the palatine foramen, greater (FPMA) and lower (FPME) on both sides by two evaluators. The data obtained showed that the average of the measurements were correspondingly higher in toothed maxillas than in toothless, for all measurements in any one of the evaluators. The AR-ANS (p = 0.001), IF-AR (p = 0.006), AR-FPMA right (p = 0.001) and AR-FPMA left (p <0.001) and AR-FPME on both sides (p = 0.001) demonstrating significant differences... |

The aim of this study was to investigate and classify the internal morphology of the mesiobuccal root of upper first permanent molar, using the cone beam computed tomography. A total of 60 first permanent molars, not healthy and with intact pulp cavity, belonging to the Postgraduate dentistry bank, underwent the computed tomography. Axial images of each tooth were analyzed, and results showed that according to the number of conduits, 21 specimens (35%) had single conduit and 39 exhibited two conduits (65%). In reference to the types of internal configuration most commonly found according to Vertucci classification; type I (single channel that extends from the pulp chamber to the apex) was the most frequent (35%), followed by type II (two separate canals... |

The lingual artery constitutes one of the branches of the external carotid artery, which is responsible for the vascularization of the tongue and neighbour regions. The hemorrhage caused by a lesion of the lingual artery can occur during a dental procedure (surgical accidents by the use of an instrument or rotating disc), by trauma, biopsy and dental implant. In some cases is difficult to stop the hemorrhage of injured vase, so is necessary to realize the extraoral ligature of this artery. Hence, this work studied the anatomic aspects of the lingual artery, by forty-eight dissections of twenty-four corpses settled in formol 10%, aiming to detail the origin, pathway and anatomic relations of the lingual artery in the region of anterior trigone of the neck,... |

This work aimed to study the morphology of the mandibular canal in Computed Tomography (CT scans), in order to assist in the clinical and surgical management of dental interventions in the mandible area. The material used was composed of 377 CT scans, selected by age (between 15 and 80 years), obtained during the period from 2011 to 2013, belonging to a private practice radiology of the city of Caruaru-PE, Brazil. 96 of these met the inclusion criteria, with 37.5% male and 62.5% female. Concerning the form of the mandibular canal, all images presented: a single canal, bilateral, extending from the mandibular to the mental foramen, without any morphological change. 37.5% had mandibular canals classified as type I, 22,92% canals type II and III and 16,66%... |
