Sünteetiliste taimekaitsevahendite laialdane kasutamine ning nendega kaasnev võimalik negatiivne mõju keskkonnale ja inimeste tervisele on tänapäeva põllumajanduses üks kõige rohkem muret tekitav teema. Aedmaasika (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) kui ühe maailmas enim kasvatatud marjakultuuri suurima kahjustaja, seene Botrytis cinerea Pers. põhjustatava hahkhallituse tõrjumisel kasutatakse praeguseni kõige sagedamini sünteetilisi fungitsiide. Aedmaasikas on maailmas üks enam kasvatatavaid marjakultuure. Kuigi enamik aedmaasika Fragaria x ananassa sortidest on isetolmlemisvõimelised, aitab risttolmlemine kaasa suuremate ja kõrgema kvaliteediga viljade moodustumisele (Klatt jt., 2014). Puudulikult tolmeldatud õitest arenenud viljad on sageli ebakorrapärase kujuga ja väiksemad. Lisaks on hästi tolmeldatud viljad ka paremini värvunud, tugevama viljalihaga ning säilivad korjamisjärgselt kauem (Klatt jt., 2014). Kaolin is an inert material with a broad range of applications, e.g. as an insecticide and as a filling substance in the formulation of biopesticides. Hence, bees that dispense biopesticides to the field in the context of entomovectoring are exposed to elevated risks because of sideeffects of those products. BICOPOLL and BICOPOLL-NET connect 12 research units from 10 European countries and autonomous regions into a concerted effort to develop and bring into practice improved methods of biocontrol and pollination services, using strawberry as the case study. BICOPOLL partners will use bees to (i) precision deliver biocontrol agents to the flowers of the target crops to provide control of diseases, (ii) improve the pollination of horticultural crops. |

The study was conducted in 2010 in five experimental areas of Tartu County. Honey bee hives were placed at the edge of strawberry fields at first bloom; each hive had a special dispenser attached containing the biofungicide Prestop Mix, which is a preparation of the parasitic fungus Gliocladium catenulatum. As the bees exited the hive through the dispenser, they were dusted with the Prestop Mix preparation and carried it to the strawberry field. There is a need for more environmentally friendly plant protection methods, since the increasing use of agrochemicals has led to pesticide residues and resistance problems in the control of Botryrtis cinerea. An alternative to chemical spraying is to use bees as entomovectors to disperse biological control agents. Prestop Mix is a biofungicide that contains spores of the parasitic fungus Gliocladium catenulatum J1446, which has been successfully used in the control of B. cinerea. Nowadays, organically produced products have become more popular than ever and interest in them is still growing fast. The early blight causal pathogen Alternaria solani has not been considered a great threat to potato in northern climate conditions in the past and has not been routinely sprayed against. During our study early blight was evaluated in 2010 and 2011 on the plants of a potato cultivar ‘Reet’ in an organic farming experiment. In our study, both growing seasons were very favourable for early blight development. Significant differences between the two cultivation technologies were found (F1,12 = 4.84, p = 0.048). Mahepõllumajanduses on lubatud kasutada bakteritest, seentest ja viirustest valmistatud preparaate. Putukatõrjevahendina on laiemas kasutuses mullabakter Bacillus thuringiensis preparaat ning mullaseen Beauveria bassiana. Aedmaasika kasvatajatele on välja töötatud preparaat Prestop Mix, mis sisaldab mullaseene Gliocladium catenulatum Strain J1446 spoore ja mütseeli. See preparaat võitleb edukalt hahkhallituse vastu aedmaasikal ja aedvaarikal, samuti ka mitmetel köö- giviljadel ja isegi ilutaimedel. Taimedele või nende õitele kantavate preparaatidega puutuvad kokku ka paljud kasulikud organismid, näiteks tolmeldajad. Hahkhallitus on aedmaasikal suuri saagikadusid põhjustav seenhaigus (Døving ja Mage, 2001; Williamson jt., 2007), mille tõrjumine keemiliste taimekaitsevahenditega on mahetootjale keelatud. Seetõttu on tekkinud vajadus alternatiivsete taimekaitsemeetodite järele, mis oleks loodust säästvamad ning sobiks ka kasutamiseks mahepõllumajanduses. Üheks selliseks alternatiiviks on entomovektortehnoloogia – biotõrje meetod, kus pulbrilisi biopreparaate viivad taimeõitele mesilaselaadsed putukad. Antud meetod sobib kasutamiseks õisi kahjustavate taimehaiguste ja -kahjurite tõrjel, kuna toitu (õietolmu, nektarit) otsides kannavad mesilased biopreparaadi täpselt aedmaasika õitele – see võimaldab vähendada preparaadikulu ning säästa keskkonda.
