High Sunflower Densities as a Weed Control Strategy in an Integrated Crop-Livestock System Planta Daninha
DOMINSCHEK,R.; DEISS,L.; LANG,C.R.; MORAES,A.; PELISSARI,A..
ABSTRACT: Sunflower is an important crop for Integrated Crop-livestock Systems (ILCS), and one of the main management difficulties identified in this crop is weed control, especially under no-till conditions when chemical weed control is not allowed. Therefore, the aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of greater sunflower population density on weed control, and its impact on sunflower yield, in an ILCS with eucalyptus in an Environmental Protection Area. Two population densities were tested (45 and 90 thousand pl. ha-1) in two crop systems (sunflower monoculture and sunflower-eucalyptus integration). An additional treatment was provided in the sunflower-eucalyptus integration, and 5 positions (2,4; 4,8; 7,2; 9,6; and 12 m) between the tree rows...

Weed Seed Bank in an Agroforestry System With Eucalyptus in Subtropical Brazil Planta Daninha
DEISS,L.; MORAES,A.; PELISSARI,A.; PORFÍRIO-DA-SILVA,V.; SCHUSTER,M.Z..
ABSTRACT : Trees can modify the weed seed bank composition and distribution in the cropped area of an agroforestry system. This study aimed at analyzing the eucalyptus (Eucalyptus dunnii) effect on spatial distribution, functional traits abundance and weed seed bank botanic composition in an agroforestry system under no-tillage in Subtropical Brazil. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with five replications, and five positions between 4.5-year-old eucalyptus double rows [(4x3) x 20 m] as treatments. Soil sampling was performed at 0-20 cm and the method to quantify and identify seeds was the seedling emergence in trays, inside a greenhouse. Weed phytosociological indices (relative density, frequency and importance), functional traits...

CHEMICAL CONTROL OF WHITE CLOVER IN SOYBEAN CROPS Planta Daninha
SCHUSTER,M. Z.; PELISSARI,A.; SZYMCZAK,L. S.; LUSTOSA,S. B. C.; MORAES,A..
ABSTRACTWhite clover is tolerant to many herbicides, making difficult a chemical control of this species during soybean crop establishments. The objective of this research was to select herbicides applied postemergence to control white clover in soybean and know the effects of this control on soybean yield. Seven herbicides were assessed, applied postemergence, with or without sequential application of glyphosate, and two control treatments (no control and total control of white clover). Glyphosate (with two sequential applications), fomesafen (with a sequential application of glyphosate), chlorimuron-ethyl and lactofen have shown a satisfactory control of white clover (above 80%). The lower control efficiency has resulted in lower production of soybeans.

Panicum maximum cv. Aries Establishment under Weed Interference with Levels of Light Interception and Nitrogen Fertilization Planta Daninha
KRUCHELSKI,S.; SZYMCZAK,L.S.; DEISS,L.; MORAES,A..
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the establishment of the pasture of Panicum maximum cv. Aries in an environmentally protected area under levels of interspecific interaction with the weed community. The experiment started after sowing P. maximum, and it was carried out in a randomized block design with four replications and the following factors: 3 light interception levels, 2 nitrogen rates, and 7 weekly sampling dates along pasture establishment (3x2x7). The light interception treatments, determined by photosynthetically active radiation, were given by mowing weeds over the canopy of P. maximum at 40% and 70% light interception, and no mowing (uncontrolled growth of weeds and P. maximum). Topdressing application of nitrogen in the form of...

WEED COMPETITION WITH SOYBEAN IN NO-TILLAGE AGROFORESTRY AND SOLE-CROP SYSTEMS IN SUBTROPICAL BRAZIL Planta Daninha
DEISS,L.; MORAES,A.; PELISSARI,A.; FRANZLUEBBERS,A.J.; NETO,F.S.; PONTES,L.S.; BARRO,R.S.; SZYMCZAK,L.S..
ABSTRACT Weed competition on soybean (Glycine max) growth and yield was expected to be different when managed in an agroforestry system as compared with sole-cropping without trees. Therefore agronomic practices to control weeds might need to be modified in agroforestry systems. We analyzed weed competition effects on soybean growth, grain yield, and yield components at different distances from 4year-old eucalyptus (Eucalyptus benthamii) in an alley cropping system, as well as in a sole-crop system in southern Brazil. Above-ground soybean biomass was collected throughout the growing season and a logistic function was used to model crop growth. Weed above-ground biomass sampled during the soybean cycle, and grain yield and yield components at the end of the...

Sticky Nightshade Infestation and Dispersion on an Integrated Soybean-Eucalyptus System at Subtropical Brazil Planta Daninha
DEISS,L.; MORAES,A.; PELISSARI,A.; PORFÍRIO-DA-SILVA,V.; DOMINSCHEK,R..
ABSTRACT: Trees in integrated crop-livestock systems can reduce infestation and dispersion of weeds because of a negative interference promoted by competition for light, water and nutrients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the infestation and dispersion of sticky nightshade (Solanum sisymbriifolium) in soybean in different positions between eucalyptus (Eucalyptus dunnii) double rows [20 m x (4 m x 3 m)] in an integrated crop-livestock system at Subtropical Brazil. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design, with nine replications, and five equidistant positions between double rows (n=45) as treatments. Sticky nightshade was evaluated for infestation through biomass, plant density (reproductive and vegetative plants), and for...
