Archeological and mtDNA evidence for Tropical Lowland migrations during the Late Archaic / Formative in northern Chile RChHN
ROTHHAMMER,FRANCISCO; SANTORO,CALOGERO M; POULIN,ELIE; ARRIAZA,BERNARDO T; MORAGA,MAURICIO; STANDEN,VIVIEN J.
The influence of tropical lowland migrations on the emergence of cultural change in the Central Andes has been postulated in general terms since the beginning of last century (Tello 1929). Archeological and molecular genetic evidence, particularly agriculture of tropical cultigens and ancient mtDNA haplogroup typing in northern Chile, suggest a chronologically more precise relationship between both regions. We test in this article the hypothesis that the process of cultural transformation of prehistoric populations living on the coast and the desert valleys of northern Chile can be partially linked to gene flow from the eastern slopes of the Andes and/or from the tropical lowlands during the Late Archaic / Formative periods (ca. 3,500-2,000 B.P.).

GARCÍA,FEDERICO; MORAGA,MAURICIO; VERA,SOLEDAD; HENRÍQUEZ,HUGO; LLOP,ELENA; OCAMPO,CARLOS; ASPILLAGA,EUGENIO; ROTHHAMMER,FRANCISCO.

Craniofacial chronological microdifferentiation of human prehistoric populations of the Azapa valley, northern Chile RChHN
ROTHHAMMER,FRANCISCO; SANTORO,CALOGERO M.; MORAGA,MAURICIO.
Archeological evidence suggest that the cultural developments occurred in the highlands around lake Titicaca in the Central Andes, exerted influence on the cultural elaborations of the human groups that peopled the valley of Azapa, close to the city of Arica, and the Pacific coast of northern Chile. In this communication we show by means of a distance analysis, that a craniofacial differentiation accompanied the process of cultural evolution in the valley. The biological influence of Tiwanaku is partially reflected in craniofacial morphology, providing preliminary evidence that cultural changes were associated to intermittent gene flow from the highlands, specially during the Alto Ramírez and San Miguel phases

MORAGA,MAURICIO; ASPILLAGA,EUGENIO; SANTORO,CALOGERO; STANDEN,VIVIEN; CARVALLO,PILAR; ROTHHAMMER,FRANCISCO.

The CK1 gene family: expression patterning in zebrafish development Biol. Res.

Protein kinase CK1 is a ser/thr protein kinase family which has been identified in the cytosol cell fraction, associated with membranes as well as in the nucleus. Several isoforms of this gene family have been described in various organisms: CK1á, CK1ß, CK1δ, CK1å and CK1γ. Over the last decade, several members of this family have been involved in development processes related to wnt and sonic hedgehog signalling pathways. However, there is no detailed temporal information on the CK1 family in embryonic stages, even though orthologous genes have been described in several different vertebrate species. In this study, we describe for the first time the cloning and detailed expression pattern of five CK1 zebrafish genes. Sequence analysis...
