| BACKGROUND: The demand for organic food products has increased during the last decades due to their probable health effects, among others. A higher content of secondary metabolites such as carotenoids in organic food products has been claimed, though not documented, to contribute to increased health effects of organic foods. The aim was to study the impact of organic and conventional agricultural systems on the content of carotenoids in carrots and human diets. In addition, a human cross-over study was performed, measuring the plasma status of carotenoids in humans consuming diets made from crops from these agricultural systems. | Forsøg i perioden 2011-13 viser, at der kan høstes helt op mod 30 hkg tørstof pr. ha ved tidlig såning af gul sennep/fodervikke. Tidlig såning er slutningen af juli til start af august. Når såtiden blev udsat gennem august måned faldt produktionen af biomasse med i gennemsnit 2-3,5% pr. dag, svarende til et fald på 0,7-2,3 kg N pr. dag. De vinterfaste arter og blandinger havde som gennemsnit et mindre tørstofudbytte end de ikke-vinterfaste. Forsøgene viste endvidere, at det kan være vanskeligt at etablere en vellykket efterafgrøde efter høst i tørre sensomre, som vi oplevede i 2013. |
