Nitrogen fertilization on ornamental ginger under fertigation in protected cultivation Horticultura Brasileira
Marques,Douglas José; Bianchini,Hudson C; Souza,Aloisio P de.
ABSTRACT Tropical floriculture has increased significantly in the last decade due to a growing worldwide market trend of consuming exotic, colorful, beautiful and durable flowers. Among the tropical floriculture products, ornamental gingers, species belonging to the families Zingiberaceae and Costaceae, have high potential for ornamental use, both for landscaping, for cut and potted flower and foliage. However, little information can be found in literature when it comes to crop fertilization, mainly concerning nitrogen fertilization, quite important to tropical soils which are poor in organic matter resource. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate application of nitrogen doses, using fertigation for growing ornamental ginger under protected cultivation. The...

Marques,Douglas José; Matheus Filho,Edmur; Bianchini,Hudson C; Veroneze Junior,Valdir; Santos,Breno Régis; Carlos,Lanamar de A; Silva,Ernani Clarete da.
ABSTRACT Protected cultivation has increased over the years. More studies on the benefits of using photoselective agrofilms are necessary. The choice of material to cover the greenhouse is a decisive factor for crop development and production. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of diffuser and blue-colored agrofilms on the production of different tomato cultivars of indeterminate growth habit under NFT hydroponic system. A completely randomized design in a 2x3 factorial scheme (two environments and three cultivars) was used: two agrofilm types (blue and diffuser) and 3 cultivars (Monterrey, Arendell and Totalle). Each plot consisted of 30 plants per treatment, with four replicates. Commercial tomato seedlings of indeterminate growth habit...

Selection of tomato genotypes for drought tolerance and agronomic potential through different selection indexes Horticultura Brasileira
Oliveira,Camila S de; Maciel,Gabriel M; Fraga Júnior,Eusímio F; Peixoto,Joicy Vitória M; Assunção,Vitor B; Marques,Douglas José.
ABSTRACT The selection of genotypes with agronomic potential associated with drought tolerance is considered of high complexity. An alternative could be the use of selection indexes that can evaluate multiple characteristics simultaneously. This study aimed to select tomato genotypes with agronomic potential and drought tolerance by selection indexes. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with three replications. Ten treatments were evaluated: seven genotypes F2RC3, donor genitor (Solanum pennellii), recurrent genitor (UFU-040), and cv. Santa Clara. The irrigation was suspended until the substrate reached a matric potential of ≤-25 kPa for water stress simulation during the tomato cycle at 45, 60, 80 and 100 days after sowing. The...

Effect of potassium sources on the antioxidant activity of eggplant¹ Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Marques,Douglas José; Broetto,Fernando; Ferreira,Mozart Martins; Lobato,Allan Klynger da Silva; Ávila,Fabricio William de; Pereira,Fabricio José.
Potassium participates in the essential processes in plant physiology, however, the effects of K sources on plant metabolism have been little studied. Also, in certain cases, K sources and concentrations may cause undesirable effects, e.g., soil salinization. The objective was to evaluate the effect of K sources and levels on the enzyme activity of the antioxidant system and protein content in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) leaves and to determine the most suitable K sources for these physiological characteristics. The experiment was conducted in randomized blocks, in a 2 × 4 factorial design, consisting of two K sources (KCl and K2SO4) and rates (250, 500, 750, and 1000 kg ha-1 K2O), with four replications. The following variables were evaluated: plant...
