Última Characterization of the occupied shells by the hermit crab Clibanarius vittatus (Decapoda, Diogenidae) at Baixio Mirim tideflat, Guaratuba Bay, southern Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC) Sampaio,Sara R.; Masunari,Setuko. A characterization of the occupied shells by the hermit crab Clibanarius vittatus was carried out. Hermit crabs were collected in the intertidal zone, during the low spring tide monthly from April 2005 to March 2006. They were sexed and their cephalothoracic shield length (CL) was measured. Shells were identified, dried, weighed and the aperture length (AL) and width (AW) were measured. 1187 crabs were collected (949 males, 216 females and 22 intersexes), which occupied 12 species of gastropod shells. Stramonita haemastoma, Olivancillaria urceus and Dorsanum moniliferum made up 96.55% of the total shell species. Uma chave pictórica de identificação foi elaborada para as espécies de caranguejos das famílias Eriphiidae, Menippidae, Panopeidae e Pilumnidae ocorrentes em águas rasas do litoral do Estado do Paraná. Uma descrição das características de reconhecimento e figuras das espécies também são apresentadas. Exemplares vivos foram obtidos de manguezal, estuário e cultivo de ostras na Baía de Guaratuba e costão rochoso de Matinhos. The opportunistic predation on the fishes Astyanax fasciatus and Crenicichla sp. entangled in gill net by the aeglid crabs Aegla grisella and Aegla singularis was observed in rivers of southern Brazil. These events occurred in two rivers located at the National Forest of Passo Fundo, in Mato Castelhano municipality, Rio Grande do Sul State and Tangará municipality, Santa Catarina State. In both places the fish showed similar wound pattern, with eyes and fins being consumed first. However, predation of the whole body was also recorded, probably due to the high number of aeglid crabs feeding on the same individual. Este estudo teve por objetivo descrever a assembleia de crustáceos decápodos associados às cordas de cultivo de mexilhões em uma fazenda marinha localizada na Enseada da Armação do Itapocoroy, no Município de Penha, Santa Catarina, sul do Brasil. Os seguintes aspectos foram tratados: composição de espécies e peso total, sucessão de espécies e oscilação temporal da abundância, riqueza de espécies e diversidade (Shannon). The Perequê and Penedo rivers flow through the plains of Praia de Leste and fall into the sea between the municipalities of Pontal do Sul and Ponta do Poço. Both of these rivers belong to the sub-basin of Paranaguá Bay, and are constituent parts of the hydrographic basin of the Atlantic Ocean (State of Paraná). Four sites along the Perequê River (Stations 1-4) and one along the Penedo River (Station 5) were monitorated for water pollution over a 12-month period. During the period of December 1995 to November 1996, three water samples were collected from each site, placed in sterilized bottles and transported to the laboratory in ice-boxes. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to describe the behavior of newly-hatched juveniles and maternal care in Aegla schmitti. The experiment was conducted using seven ovigerous females with eggs at different stages of embryonic development and 12 eggs that had been placed in a separate aquarium. We observed asynchronous hatching in all females, with a mean of 66 hatched juveniles per female. The females also exhibited extended maternal care, allowing the juveniles to remain inside their abdominal chamber or on other parts of their body in the first few days after hatching. Um estudo sobre a flutuação temporal da estrutura populacional do ermitão Clibanarius vittatus (Bosc, 1802) foi realizado no Baixio Mirim, Baía de Guaratuba, Estado do Paraná, Brasil (25°52'S, 48°36'W). Clibanarius vittatus é uma espécie largamente estudada, entretanto estudos da biologia populacional desta em diferentes regiões são escassos. Coletas mensais foram realizadas na zona entremarés, de abril/2005 a março/2006. A carapaça de 28 machos e 30 fêmeas e o própodo dos quelípodos direito e esquerdo de 22 machos e 26 fêmeas foram analisados. Foram estabelecidos 13 marcos anatômicos bidimensionais na carapaça e 10 no própodo para ambos os sexos. Uma Análise Generalizada de Procrustes baseada na configuração dos marcos anatômicos foi utilizada para separar os componentes de tamanho e de forma. Os animais foram coletados mensalmente, de fevereiro/2005 a janeiro/2006, durante as marés baixas de sizígia, e a sua largura da carapaça (LC) medida. A temperatura pontual do ar variou de 17 a 29ºC, a luminosidade de 8.740 a 151.300 lux, a salinidade de 8 a 25 e a temperatura do solo (superfície, 5 cm, 10 cm, 15 cm e 20 cm de profundidade) de 18,3 a 28,9ºC. Zoea larvae obtained from four ovigerous female were reared in the laboratory until the development of the first crab stage. The development from zoea I to the first juvenile instar lasted 35 days after hatching. The first crab stage of Minuca mordax can be morphologically distinguished from those of Minuca burgersi and Leptuca cumulanta by a 2-segmented antennule endopod (3-segmented in M. burgersi, unsegmented in L. cumulanta), an unsegmented maxillule endopod (2-segmented in M. burgersi and L. cumulanta), and a 4-segmented first and second maxilliped endopod (respectively unsegmented and 5-segmented in M. burgersi and L. cumulanta). Major chela length (CMQ) was measured from 191 males, and abdomen width (LAB) from 128 females. Carapace width (LC) was the reference dimension for both sexes, which ranged from 3.9 to 11.5 mm for males, and from 3.15 to 10.65 mm for females. Males grew bigger than females. Relationship between CMQ and LC showed a transition point at 8.35 mm LC in males, and between LA and LC at 7.10 mm LC in females. About a hundred pebbles and boulders were dislodged from I m² area and Im depth, so that a pit was formed. A sheet net of Im² and Imm mesh size was spread on the bottom of this pit and the stones were replaced again, like the original condition. After a cicle of high tide (about 12 hours), the same stones in the pit were carefully searched by dislodging and by rinsing them. Também, foi realizado um estudo do crescimento relativo do dátilo em relação à maior quela nos machos e da destreza dos quelípodos.
