Growth of Araucaria angustifolia in the Embrapa/Epagri forest reserve, Caçador, SC, Brazil PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

Araucaria Forest is one of most threatened phyto-physiognomies in the Atlantic Forest domain,presenting great ecological-economical importance. Nevertheless, there are still lacks of knowledge concerning growth and dynamic of important species, as Araucaria angustifolia. The objective of this work was to recover  the past growth of Araucaria angustifolia, native from Caçador, SC, Brazil, by measuring growth rings and to estimate the average periodic diametric increment. The growth rings were counted and measured, using a stereoscope microscope, in increment cores of 0.5 cm collected from 32 adult trees. Dendrochronology of species from Brazilian Araucaria Forest, Candoi, PR PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

In the present work the dendrochronological potential of six species of the Araucaria Forest is analyzed. The trunks of 20 trees were collected in Candoi, State of Parana, Brazil, from an area that belongs toELEJOR, Centrais Elétricas do Rio Jordão, for the following species: Araucaria angustifolia, Clethra scabra, Cedrela lilloi, Ocotea porosa, Podocarpus lambertii and Sebastiania commersoniana (3 to 6, from each species). The trunks were sawed, and at breast height a sample was taken from the center of the board, from bark to bark, crossing the pith, for macroscopic analysis. Age and Growth Rhythm of Tree Species Natural From Pantanal Matogrossense, MS PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

The information on the influence of environmental factors upon growth rate of trees is very important for the development of forestry management programs. The aim of this work was to determine the age and  radial increments of the trees. Samples were collected, in July 1996, in Nhumirim Farm, Embrapa Pantanal, located in Nhecolândia sub-region, Pantanal, Corumbá - Mato Grosso do Sul. The disks from 19 trees species were collected in areas with Arboreous Savanna, Forested Savana and Semi-deciduous Dry Forest. The  trees were selected by good canopy formation. Traversal section samples of the stem were collected of each tree at 0.3 m height, to determinate age and  increment of the first five years of the trees, and at  1,30m height, to evaluate the growth...

The injuries of Ctenarytaina spatulata Taylor, 1977, were characterized through observations in field,  laboratory and greenhouse. The first injuries of C. spatulata in Eucalyptus grandis are caused during  oviposition. At the point where the egg is inserted, a   small black spot appears, which may grow larger, causing the bud death. The insect eliminates large  amount of honeydew, accumulating on leaves and  apical parts, which starts the proliferation of sooty mold,  and fitopathogenic fungi. Density of Araucaria angustifolia wood from overstocked stand PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

The aim of this work was to evaluate the radial and longitudinal variations of wood specific gravity in an overstocked stand of Araucaria angustifolia, with 65 years. The stand was located in the National Forest of Açungui, Campo Largo, Parana State, Brazil, with thinning recorded between 1970 and 1980, without subsequent thinnings. We selected three trees for each diameter class: 10-30 cm, 30-50 cm and 50-70 cm. To the longitudinal analysis, we collected discs from seven heights (0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100% of commercial stem and at 1.3 m). The barks were removed and it was obtained opposite wedges until pith and five samples were taken in radial direction from each disk.
