Apart from the common cricetid fauna, the site of Vieux-Collonges contains a number of rare forms: Lartetomys, Melissiodon, Neocometes, and Anomalomys. This scarce material is described and compared with material from other European localities. The stratigraphie position of Vieux-Collonges is discussed briefly. En plus des Cricetodontinae et Cricetinae communs, il existe à Vieux-Collonges plusieures espèces d'autres groupes de Cricetidae, représentées par des matériaux peu nombreux. Il s'agit de Lartetomys mirabilis, Lartetomys zapfei, Melissiodon aff. dominans, Neocometes similis et Anomalomys sp. Cettes formes sont décrites, et leur valeur pour la corrélation de Vieux-Collonges avec d'autres gisements de mammifères miocènes est discutée. In this paper the various species and populations attributed to the genus Progonomys Schaub, 1938 are revised. Valerymys Michaux, 1969 is considered to be synonymous with Occitanomys Michaux, 1969, since the type-species V. ellenbergeri (Thaler, 1966) was included in Occitanomys by Aguilar et al. (1986a). Other species from Western Europe that had been included in Valerymys cannot be transferred to Occitanomys. They are the descendants of Progonomys cathalai, for which we create the new genus Huerzelerimys, that includes the known species H. vireti (Schaub, 1938), H. turoliensis (Michaux, 1969) and H. oreopitheci (Engesser, 1989), and the new species H. minor. In this paper a revision of the genus Castillomys Michaux, 1969 is given. Previously described subspecies are elevated to species rank, and a new species, Castillomys rivas, is proposed. Several populations from Italy and Turkey are transferred to the genus Centralomys de Giuli, 1989. For a population from Maritsa the new subgenus Rhodomys is created within the genus Occitanomys. A partir de l'étude des Cricetidae de Vieux-Collonges (Rhône, France) les auteurs sont arrivés à une nouvelle conception de la systématique des Cricetidae tertiaires de l'Europe. Les principaux changements sont les suivants: Le genre Democricetodon est rangé parmi les Cricetinae, et non plus parmi les Cricetodontinae. Pour les hamsters oligocènes les nouvelles sous-familles Eucricetodontinae et Paracricetodontinae sont érigées. Les Cricetodontinae dans leur nouveau sens restreint sont subdivisés en plusieurs tribus. Le genre Cricetodon est subdivisé en quelques sous-genres nouveaux. In this first part of a revision of the Cricetidae from Vieux-Collonges (Rhône, France) the genus Cricetodon is dealt with. This genus is represented by three species, C. meini Freudenthal, 1963, C. aureus n. sp. and a third one which is not named, because it is based on one specimen only.
