| Like other large fisheries of small pelagics in the world, the Moroccan fishery of the Central Atlantic can be considered as a "fishery at risk" insofar as a collapse of the stock is a possibility that cannot be completely ruled out. Unfavourable modifications to the natural environment aggravated by a too intensive exploitation of the resources can bring on such a collapse. Up until the beginning of the 80s, the level of exploitation of the sardine stock in the Central Atlantic area remained moderate. | (Not controled OCR )The author describes the French fishing fleet replacement policy from 1945 to 1983 and ascertains from it the objectives and constraints of public policy. While the theoretical and practical negative effects of open-access fisheries were well assessed, the French experience provides an example of the difficulties of carrying out a policy limiting access to fisheries. Domestic conflicts of interest and open competition with foreign countries failed to limit the overall fishing capacity of the French fleet. They have also led the government to focus on shortterm distributional issues rather than on long-term efficiency. | The trawling activities of Sète ships grew markedly between 1971 and 1983: the number and above all the power of these trawls increased; marketed amounts went from less than 3,000 tonnes for the period 1971-1973 to more than 8,000 tonnes in 1982 and 1983. This development masks a distinct deterioration of the economic results of each category of trawl since the end of the 1970s. It aims to provide a quantification of changes in the value of new and used boats in use in St Brieuc Bay. | The landed prices of the four main demersal species (whiting, saithe, haddock, cod) in France vary based on the amount landed, the average weight of the fish, imports and seasonal factors. Adapting an econometric model to the period 1974-1983 makes it possible to differentiate the four species as regards the determination of prices. - Cod seems like the key species, around which the prices of the three other species are determined. The visible consumption of cod is the highest (around 60,000 tonnes per year, more than half of which is imported).
