Indarctos (Ursidae, Mammalia) from the Spanish Turolian (Upper Miocene) 16
Montoya, P.; Alcalá, L.; Morales, J..
Abundant fossils of the bear Indarctos atticus (Weithofer, 1888) from the Lower Turolian (MN11) site of Crevillente 2 (Alicante, Spain) and some new material from the Middle Turolian (MN12) of Concud and Valdecebro 5 (Teruel, Spain) are described. On the other hand some dental remains from Crevillente 2 are identified as Indarctos sp. cf. I. vireti Villalta & Crusafont, 1943 on the basis of their small size. The status of different Indarctos species are discussed.

El sistema de yacimientos de mamíferos miocenos del Cerro de los Batallones, Cuenca de Madrid: estado actual y perspectivas 16
Morales, J.; Pozo, M.; Silva, P.G.; Domingo, M.S.; López-Antoñanzas, R.; Álvarez Sierra, A.; Antón, M.; Martín Escorza, C.; Quiralte, V.; Salesa, M.J.; Sánchez, I.M.; Azanza, B.; Calvo, J.P.; Carrasco, P.; García-Paredes, I.; Knoll, F.; Hernández Fernández, M.; Hoek Ostende, L.W. van den; Merino, L.; Meulen, A.J. van der; Montoya, P.; Peigné, S.; Peláez-Campomanes, P.; Sánchez-Marco, A.; Turner, A.; Abella, J.; Alcalde, G.M.; Andrés, M.; DeMiguel, D.; Cantalapiedra, J.L.; Fraile, S.; García Yelo, B.A.; Gómez Cano, A.R.; López Guerrero, P.; Oliver Pérez, A.; Siliceo, G..
The Cerro de los Batallones (Los Batallones Butte) is located in the central-northern area of the Madrid Basin, central Spain. Nine vertebrates localities containing a large variety of mammals of Upper Vallesian Age (Late Miocene) have been found associated with the sediments forming the butte. From bottom to top, these sediments consist of magnesian lutite beds (Unit I), paleosols formed of sepiolite and opal (Unit II), and siliclastic, marlstone and carbonate beds (Unit III). The set of ERT profiles developed in Los Batallones Butte have demonstrate that electrical imaging techniques are an estimable tool for the characterization and prospecting of fossil sites developed in fine-grained siliciclastic sequences. These localities contain an exceptionally...

The porcupine Hystrix suevica Schlosser, 1884 from the lower Turolian of Crevillente 2 (Spain) 16
Montoya, P..
The fossil record of the genus Hystrix is rather scarce, and little is known about its origin. Its presence in Crevillente 2, a well-dated Lower Turolian (MN11) Spanish locality, is an important fact because, from a stratigraphic point of view, it is one of the oldest references of this genus. The comparative study of the remains from Crevillente 2 reveals the presence of a small species, Hystrix suevica, which lived in Europe from Middle Aragonian to Early Turolian time. In most recent revisions of the genus Hystrix, this species has not been taken into account. H. suevica shows undeniable morphological affinities with H. primigenia. The latter was a large-sized Hystrix, which spread over Europe from Middle Turolian to Late Pliocene time, reaching Africa...

Proboscidea (Mammalia) from the Upper Miocene of Crevillente (Alicante, Spain) 16
Mazo, A.V.; Montoya, P..
The fossil Proboscidea from the Spanish Turolian (Upper Miocene) sites of Crevillente 2 (MN11) and Crevillente 15 and 16 (MN12) are described. The mastodont from Crevillente 2 is assigned to Tetralophodon cf. longirostris ‘grandincisivoid form’, recognised for the first time in the Iberian Peninsula, and that from Crevillente 16 to Tetralophodon longirostris. The Deinotheriidae from Crevillente 2 and Crevillente 15 are identified as Deinotherium giganteum and Deinotherium sp., respectively. The status of ‘Mastodon’ grandincisivus and the ‘grandincisivoid forms’ of Gomphotherium and Tetralophodon are discussed.

El yacimiento del Aragoniense medio de La Retama (Depresión Intermedia, Provincia de Cuenca, España) : significado de las faunas con Hispanotherium = The middle Miocene locality of La Retama (Cuenca Province, Spain) : significance of the Hisp 16
Morales, J.; Alcalá, L.; Hoyos, M.; Montoya, P.; Nieto, M.; Pérez, B.; Soria, D..
