Risk Analyses of Disposal of Pig Carcasses Smaller Than 40 KG in The Netherland AgEcon
Mul, Monique F.; Bokma-Bakker, Martien H.; Eijick, Ineke.
A study based on the literature, an on- farm audit and expert knowledge, was carried out to determine 1) the risks of spread of animal diseases among farms; 2) odour nuisance due to carcasses at the rendering plant; and 3) measurements to reduce these risks. It was concluded that the possible risks of spread of animal diseases among farms due to the removal of carcasses mainly has to do with the entrance of the place from where the carcasses are collected by the driver of the truck , the contact of the grab of the haulier with the cadaver container or place and driving with the haulier which is not fully closed. Farm Specific Control of the Introduction and Spread of Salmonella at Finishing Pig Farms AgEcon
Van der Gaag, M.A.; Enting, J.; Mul, Monique F..
In The Netherlands, a system to control the prevalence of Salmonella in the pork supply chain is under development by the Product Boards of Livestock, Meat and Eggs. Therefore, the Animal Sciences Group-Applied Research has developed a tool to support pig-finishing farms to control Salmonella. This tool contains eight checklists. The checklists are based on the principles of the HACCP methodology. Important hazards and control measures were determined. Each checklist deals with a part of the farm procedures; supply of water, piglets, pelleted feed, cereals, roughage, liquid co-products and hygiene and daily management. By means of the developed tool, farm specific control measures to reduce the introduction and spread of Salmonella can easily be identified...
