Synonymical remarks about Dichrosoma Lansbergei, Krtz Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
In a paper on the Cetoniidae captured by Mr. C. Ribbe in the Aru-Islands (Deutsche Entomologische Zeitschrift. XXIX (1885). p. 81—93), Dr. Kraatz has established the genus » Dichrosoma” for the reception of an insect upon which he bestowed the specific name »Lansbergei.” According to the author this new genus is a very distinct one, although rather difficult to characterize, being not closely allied to any of the already known genera, and perhaps it should be best placed after Sternoplus. Having acquired of late the unique specimen (type) of this species, I was at first sight surprised by the great resemblance it shows in outline with Diaphonia Bassi White, an insect upon which Kraatz has established his genus Platedelosis (Deutsche Ent. Zeitschrift XXIV...

Some remarks upon certain species of Coryphocera Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
In a recent paper (Deutsche Ent. Zeitschr. 1895, Heft II, p. 281, not yet published) of which through the kindness of the author I received the other day a separate copy, Dr. Heller of the Dresden Museum describes under the name of Heterorrhina Schadenbergi a pretty new species of Coryphocera from Busuanga, a small island between Mindoro and Palawan. C. Schadenbergi is allied much more closely to C. versicolor Jans. from Jolo island, which Dr. Heller has overlooked, than to any of the species with which he compares it.

On Macronota apicalis, G. & P Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
Among the Macronota’s described and figured in Gory and Percheron’s »Monographie des Cétoines (1833)” there is a small species from West-Africa, viz.: Macronota apicalis G. & P., which, though with some doubt, was placed by the authors in the genus Macronota, composed of Asiatic species only. Our advanced knowledge of the distribution of Cetoniid genera induces us to consider the occurrence in West-Africa of a species, belonging to an exclusive Asiatic genus, a fact of much doubt. Moreover the figure of M. apicalis is not at all representing the peculiar facies of a Macronota, but looks much more like a Glycypliana with a slightly lobed prothorax.

Final remark on Dolichoprosopus maculatus, Rits Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
Shortly after having published my observations on the grey colored ♂ specimen of Dolichoprosopus maculatus Rits. from Batjan [vide Notes from the Leyden Museum, vol. XI (1889), p. 222 ¹)], I obtained a few male and female specimens of the typical colour from Halmaheira, which showed at once that the different colour of the covering pile is independent on the sexes and must be ascribed to a local variety. Moreover a second specimen from Batjan strengthened this opinion, for although being in a pitiable rubbed condition, it showed just enough of the pile to state that it was of the same greyish colour.

Additional remarks on Cladopalpus Hageni, Lansb Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
My assistant Mr. J. Z. Kannegieter, who is travelling in the Malay Archipelago, has had the good fortune, when collecting in the interior of Bedagei (Deli, East Sumatra), to obtain a and a ♀ specimen of the above named interesting Longicorn , of which as yet only two male specimens were known, one from Serdang (Deli) in the Leyden Museum collection and an other from Mount Ardjoeno (East Java) in the collection of Mr. van Lansberge which is now in Mr. Oberthtir’s possession. The knowledge of the ♂ sex is the more important as it shows that the extraordinary structure of the maxillary palpi is only a character of the male sex. Nevertheless the female palpi are still very remarkable for its length and robust although ordinary structure, the last joint is...

On a variety of Euzostria aruensis, Gorh Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
Among a few insects from Goldie-River, New-Guinea (30 miles inland from Port Moresby), I obtained an Erotylid, which proved to belong to the newly erected genus Euzostria Gorh. (Notes from the Leyd. Mus. X, p. 140, pl. 7, fig. 6) founded upon a single specimen of a new insect from the Aru-Islands. The comparison of my specimen with the description of this species ( E. aruensis Gorh.), offering several differences, I was inclined to regard my New-Guinean insect as a closely allied but distinct species. However, after a careful examination of the type-specimen, I think it will fie better to consider the New-Guinean form as a variety, at least provisionally, until the arrival of a more extensive material shall allow us to obtain certainty. As- the spotted...

On two new and some already known Longicorns, belonging to the Batoceridae Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
In the Trans. ent. Soc. IV (1845) p. 86 Mr. Parry gives a very short diagnosis of his Batocera Calanus, a description so incomplete that it is impossible to find out which of the Batocera-species with eight elytral spots is meant. — In the Catalogue of Messrs. Gemminger and von Harold B. Calanus is placed as a synonym of B. Roylei Hope. As I visited last summer the British Museum, I found there among the Batocera’s a species labelled B. Calanus Parry, quite distinct from B. Roylei Hope, but with the aid of Parry’s description I could not ascertain whether that determination was correct or not. — Happily Mr. B. W. Janson informed me that Mr. A. Fry was the possessor of Parry’s Longicorns and as I visited that gentleman he kindly allowed me to take Parry’s...

Synonymical remarks about Mallodon jejunum, Pascoe Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
Mallodon jejunum Pascoe (Journal of Entomology, II, 1864, p. 248) became some years afterwards the type of the genus Brephilydia Pascoe (Annals and Magazine of Natural History. 4th ser., vol. IV, 1871, pl. 13, fig. 6 & 6a); in the Munich Catalogue the genus Brephilydia is placed as a synonym of the genus Macrotoma, and the Australian Brephilydia jejuna. Pascoe as a synonym of Macrotoma jejuna Klug from Madagascar! Finally Mr. Thomson established in the Revue et Magasin de Zoologie 1877, p. 277, upon Pascoe’s Mallodon jejunum a new genus Blephylidia (Pascoe Mss.). NB. In the »Liste des Cérambycides” of Mr. Lameere, mention is made of a second species of the genus Blephylidia Thoms, viz. Bl. Raffrayi Thoms. 1. c. p. 278, but this species has nothing to...

On the Geographical distribution of some little-known African species of Nigidius Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
1. Nigidius amplicollis Qued. (Berl. Ent. Zeitschr. XXVIII (1884) p. 266), first recorded from the Quango (v. Mechow) proves to be a widely distributed species. I have specimens from the Upper Zambesi and from the N’Guru mountains (Zanzibar). 2. Nigidius laevigatus Har. (Mittheil. d. Münch. Ent. Ver. II (1878) p. 100 & Coleopt. Hefte XVI (1879) p. 31) 1), originally described from a specimen captured by Dr. Pogge in the interior of tropical Africa (Lunda-land), then recorded by Quedenfeldt from the Quango, extends its range also towards the East-Coast, my specimen being from Lake Nyassa.

On the male of Rosenbergia megalocephala, v. d. Poll Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
In the foregoing volume of the »Notes”, I have described (p. 32) a ♀ specimen of a Batocerid belonging to the genus Rosenbergia Rits., on which I bestowed the specific name megalocephala on account of the enormous development of the head. Having been fortunate enough to procure lately a ♂ specimen, I think it will be of interest to point out the sexual differences, which do not only consist of the usual characteristic of the antennae. Firstly the head and mandibles are not extraordinarily developed but are well proportioned to the size of the insect; the antennae are of course more robust and longer, measuring 75 mm., thus overreaching the body with 30 mm. The thoracic spines are slightly directed upwards, the humeral tooth is somewhat larger, and the...

Contributions to the knowledge of the Longicorn group of the Batoceridae Naturalis
Neervoort van de Poll, J.R.H..
Recently Mr. Ritsema has published (vide ante p. 219) an alphabetical list of the described species of the genus Batocera with indication of the synonyms. These synonymical remarks are partly due to his own observations, partly to Mr. van Lansberge’s informations concerning many of the Thomsonian species, and my own notices on the species described by Major Parry, whilst a few are copied from the Munich Catalogue. Having just now successively visited the Museums of Genoa, Darmstadt and Loudon , as well as the private collection of Mr. Pascoe, I am able to give still some additional synonymical annotations on the types contained in the above mentioned collections. The examination of the Batocerids of the Museum of Genoa did not afford me observations on the...
