Finite modelling of growth and yield of okra using different tillage systems in Obubra, Nigeria CIGR Journal
Odey, Simon Ogbeche.
Abstract:  Field experiment was conducted at the teaching and research farm of Cross River University of Technology, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, Obubra Campus. The study was aimed at finite modelling of growth and yield of Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.) using different tillage systems. Randomised Complete Block Design (RCBD) was used in the field, 1,024m2 with three treatments and three replicates. These treatments were Conventional, Conservative and Zero tillage. Each treatment had three replicates of size 8m x 8m, separated from each other by 2m for manoeuvring of the tractor. Planting of okra and other cultural practices were carried out. Soil samples were collected for analysis in the laboratory. Data on growth parameters and yield of okra...

Design steps of narrow tillage tools for draught reduction and increased soil disruption – a review CIGR Journal
Odey, Simon Ogbeche.
Design steps of narrow tillage tools for draught reduction and increased soil disruption was reviewed. Narrow tillage tools are the main components of conservation tillage and soil compaction alleviation equipment. Literature regarding dynamic behaviour and step-by-step design of narrow tillage tools is scarce. A better understanding of soil dynamic behaviour and designing steps will help in the design of new tool shapes which will reduce tool draught, energy demand and increased soil disruption over a wide speed range. At the same time, narrow tools disturb less soil, ideally only the minimum necessary to establish a crop. Narrow tillage tools such as subsoilers have gain much ground in their application for alleviating soil compaction; and are attracting...

Development and Performance Evaluation of Instrumented Subsoilers in Breaking Soil Hard-Pan CIGR Journal
Odey, Simon Ogbeche; Manuwa, Seth Idowu; Ewetumo, Theophilus.
Four instrumented subsoilers were developed for alleviation of compaction on agricultural land.  Draughts and soil disturbance of the subsoilers were measured during operation at the outdoor soil bin. Straight shank subsoiler (SSS), semi-parabolic subsoiler (SPS), parabolic ‘C’ shank subsoiler (CSS) and winged subsoiler (WSB) were designed and constructed for use by the tool carrier in loosening soil hard pan. Soil cone penetrometer (CP40II, 333 mm3, 60o cone tip angle) and electronic moisture meter were used to take readings at various locations and depths on the soil bin before and after subsoiling. Soil samples were taken to laboratory for analysis for physico-chemical properties. Each of the shanks was hitched to the tool bar of the carrier. A 100 kN...
