EFFECT OF SOIL PYSICAL PROPERTIS ON PERFORMANCE OF AGRICULTURAL FIELD MACHINERIES IN THE TROPICAL REGION OF NIGERIA CIGR Journal
Oduma, Okechukwu.
Abstract: A research was conducted at the demonstration farms of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State and Veterinary School, Ezzangbo, Ebnonyi State in 2017; to assess the effect of soil physical properties on the performance of some selected agricultural field machineries in the tropical region of Nigeria. Results of the effect of the soil textural class/ type on implement performances revealed that the average efficiency of the implements was highest on sandy-clay soil with average efficiency of 87.35% and the least was loamy-sandy soil that gave an average efficiency of 86.21%. It was observable from the results that the highest average moisture content of 17.7% was recorded for all the \soils before tillage; but after tillage;...

Effect of Soil Type and Operational Speed on Performance of Some Selected Agricultural Field Machinery in South East Nigeria CIGR Journal
Oduma, Okechukwu.
Abstract: A research was conducted to examine the effect of soil type and operational speed on the performance of some selected agricultural field machineries in South- East Nigeria. Results revealed that the disc plough had maximum field efficiency of 88.11% at a working speed of 6kmhr-1 in clay-loam soil, while in sandy-clay soil; it recorded maximum field efficiency of 87.98% under the same operational speed (6kmhr-1) and in loamy-sandy soil it obtained  maximum field efficiency of 87.55% at the speed of 5kmhr-1. The harrow had maximum field efficiency of 98.54% at operational speed of 9kmhr-1 in sandy-clay soil; in clay-loam soil at a working speed of 8kmhr-1, it recorded maximum field efficiencies of 87.98%, and 87.19% respectively. Results further...

Development of empirical regression equations for predicting the performances of disc plough and harrow in clay-loam soil CIGR Journal
Oduma, Okechukwu.
Abstract: The regression equations for predicting the performances of plough and harrow implements in clay – loam soil in South – East agro – ecological region of Nigeria were developed. This is to enable farmers, farm managers and users of farm machinery assess and select proper machinery based on soil type/ condition for good performance of the machine and to avoid unnecessary breakdown/failures or energy loss during operation and generally to optimize production at minimum cost. Results showed that for plough operated in clay – loam soil, the regression equation that can predict its various performance indicators are: field efficiency, Y = 0.067x2 – 0.7733x + 89.283; effective field capacity, Y = 0.0864x2 – 1.4406x +6.8173; theoretical field capacity, Y...
