Die Nephrotoma-Verbreitung in der Welt (Diptera, Tipulidae) Naturalis
Oosterbroek, P.; Schuckard, R.; Theowald, B..
The distributional patterns of the members of the genus Nephrotoma have been analyzed. Most species prefer moist temperate climates, thus showing a correlation with the zone of deciduous forests. Almost all species of the southern hemisphere occupy strongly restricted areas in mountain forests, but the holarctic species are much more widely distributed. Within the range of the deciduous forests a number of centres can be recognized which are particularly rich in species. An exception is formed by a species-rich focus ranging from the Altai through the Baikal area, where taiga and sparsely wooded steppes intermingle. Contrary to the other centres hardly any endemics occur in this focus. The area is interpreted as a centre where species from north and south,...

Zur Zoogeographie der Westpalaearktischen Tipuliden II. Die Tipuliden der Iberischen Halbinsel Naturalis
Theowald, Br.; Oosterbroek, P..
A list is provided of the 115 Tipulidae taxa from the Iberian Peninsula and the 7 taxa from the Balearic Islands. A description is given of Tipula (Yamatotipula) submontium nov. spec. The following statements, with regard to the zoogeography of the Tipulidae from the Peninsula, are presented: 91% of the present-day fauna descend from european immigrants in the late Pleistocene (50 taxa) or in the Holocene (55 taxa), only 9% (10 taxa) from immigrants in earlier times of the Pleistocene. The iberian element in the present-day fauna of Europe comprises about 10 taxa which entered western and middle Europe during Holocene times.

The zoogeography of the western Palaearctic Tipulidae (Diptera). X. The Tipulidae of the eastern Mediterranean islands Naturalis
Theowald, Br.; Oosterbroek, P..
A discussion is presented about the zoogeography of the Tipulidae known from the eastern Mediterranean islands; 54 nonendemic and 19 endemic species and subspecies are presently known from 25 islands. The non-endemic and endemic Tipulidae fauna of the islands close to Greece and Turkey is very similar to the fauna of the adjacent mainland. Older endemic as well as more widespread but relict species are found especially on the southern Aegean islands and on Cyprus. The Tipulidae fauna of the Kikládhes apparently is at large of quite recent, probably late Pleistocene origin.

Zur Zoogeographie der westpalaearktischen Tipuliden. I. Die Tipuliden von Nordafrika (Diptera, Tipulidae) Naturalis
Theowald, Br.; Oosterbroek, P..
A list is provided of the 53 Tipulidae species known from Macaronesia (16), Northwest Africa (38) and Egypt (1). No species are known from Libya. Some synonyms and some species erroneously recorded from the region are discussed. A description is given of Tipula (Yamatotipula) lateralis barbarensis subsp. nov., T. (Yamatotipula) montium afriberia subsp. nov. and T. (Acutipula) rifensis spec. nov. A redescription is given of T. (Savtshenkia) atlas Pierre. The following results about zoogeography are presented: The present tipulid fauna of North Africa is of Palaearctic origin and has no elements originating from the Afrotropical Region. The immigration route for probably all Tipulidae from Europe to Northwest Africa lies over the Strait of Gibraltar and not...

The cranefly Tipula trifascingulata new for the Netherlands (Diptera: Tipulidae) Naturalis
Oosterbroek, P.; Dek, J.C.; Jong, H. de.
Craneflies of the family Tipulidae are a well-known group of the Diptera, consisting of large, long-legged nematocerous flies. Many species are more or less uniform yellow, grey or brown, but some are bright red or yellow and black. The wings can have extensive dark patterns. The subgenus Pterelachisus of the genus Tipula holds nine species in the Netherlands and in this paper species number 10 is introduced: T. (P.) trifascingulata. It is a rather conspicuous insect with a very characteristic wing pattern. It was only known from 25 records worldwide. In 2012, the year of discovery in the Netherlands, the species was found no less than nine times, in different parts of the country. This is an indication that the species has recently reached the...
