Giménez Hurtado, E.; Pérez Jar, L.; Jaime Ceballos, B.; Fraga Castro, I.; Jiménez Cabrera, R.; Cabrera Vilaon, D.; Moreno Urquiza, A..

Jaime Ceballos, B.; Civera Cerecedo, R.; Villareal, H.; Galindo López, J.; Pérez Jar, L..
An experiment was conducted at the wet laboratory of the Fisheries Research Centre, Havana, Cuba, to evaluate the attractability of a pelleted diet containing Spirulina platensis meal for Litopenaeus schmitti juvenile. The design was completely randomized with 4 treatments and 6 repetitions.

Fisiología Y Calidad Reproductiva De Machos De Camarón Blanco [Litopenaeus schmitti] En Condiciones De Cautiverio OceanDocs
Pérez Jar, L..
To satisfy the needs of shrimp farms of southern white shrimp Litopenaeus schmitti in Cuba, an increased mating success of pond-reared broodstock is needed in commercial hatcheries, and this objective depends mostly on the quality of males. Even though this species can reproduce in a closed life-cycle, batches of low-performance pond-reared males have been obtained. To analyze whether the system of tanks is partly responsible, in a first experiment, reproductive performance was compared in unisex and mixed tanks during a production period lasting 28 days. In a second experiment, reproductive performance, sperm quality, and physiological condition was compared between pond-reared and wild males throughout a production period of 70 days. In the first...

Effect of Spirulina platensis meal as feed additive on growth, survival and development in Litopenaeus schmitti shimp larvae OceanDocs
Jaime Ceballos, B.; Villareal, H.; Garcia, T.; Pérez Jar, L.; Alfonso, E..
To evaluate the effect of Spirulina platensis inclusion in microdiets for white shrimp Litopenaeus schmitti larvae, a completely randomized experimental design was developed with 4 treatments and three replicates. Diets with 3 inclusion levels (0, 2.5 and 5%) were prepared. A control was fed Artemia nauplii. Larvae were fed for 120 hours from mysis I to postlavae 1 every 4 h, and water quality parameters were measured daily. At the end of the experiment survival was determined, and the development index of the larvae was calculated. The chemical score of the diet was also determined, using the L. schmitti postlarvae amino-acid pattern as reference. Triptophan and hystidine were the first and second limiting amino acids in the diets. Survival was around 80%...
