The growth, photosynthetic pigments and essential oil composition of monocropped and intercropped lemon balm with yarrow Agronomy
Silva, Thaís Cristina; Pinto, José Eduardo Brasil Pereira; Pacheco, Fernanda Ventorim; Roza, Heitor Luiz Heiderich; Lordêllo, Diogo Mendes da Silva; Bertolucci, Suzan Kelly Vilela.
The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of lemon balm intercropping with yarrow on the vegetative growth, photosynthetic pigments and essential oil contents as well as the chemical composition of essential oils. Accordingly, the lemon balm and yarrow monocroppings were compared to the intercropping of both species. The plants were cultivated for 120 days under field conditions. The experimental design followed randomized blocks with seven repetitions. Growth was assessed through the accumulation of shoot dry matter and through the leaf area. The photosynthetic pigment content was set based on the fully expanded leaves from five plants in each treatment. The essential oil was extracted through the hydrodistillation of the lemon balm leaves and...

Use of light-emitting diode (LED) in the physiology of cultivated plants – review Sci. Agrar.Paran. / SAP
Lazzarini, Luiz Eduardo Santos; Pacheco, Fernanda Ventorim; Silva, Samia Torres; Coelho, Adriane Duarte; Medeiros, Ana Paula Ribeiro; Bertolucci, Suzan Kelly Vilela; Pinto, José Eduardo Brasil Pereira; Soares, Joyce Doria Rodrigues.
The objective of this study was to demonstrate the effects of the use of LED bulbs in the physiology of cultivated plants. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been proposed as a light source for controlled environments or in plant growth chambers, since they have desirable characteristics for plant development. The development and physiology of plants are strongly influenced by the environment light spectrum provided by the LEDs, among which we can mention the blue, red, green, and their combinations. The blue light, for example, is responsible for a number of important photomorphogenetic features in plants, including stomatal control. Studies indicate that the red wavelength is efficiently absorbed by the pigments present in the plants, since its wavelength...
