| The Neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros (Fabr.), was collected on sunflower [Helianthus annuus (L.)], soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill], star bristle [Acanthospermum hispidum (DC.)], and under fallen leaves of mango tree [Mangifera indica (L.)] and privet (Ligustrum lucidum Ait.), during one year, to evaluate the diapause incidence and the occurrence of different seasonal morphs. The majority of the insects (ca. 90%) with mature reproductive organs was observed during the summer (December-March), when E. heros was found on soybean or on sunflower; in the beginning of autumn, most insects (87%) showed immature reproductive organs, and they were found on star bristle and under fallen leaves. | Realizou-se levantamento da incidência de parasitismo por moscas taquinídeas em duas espécies de pentatomídeos pragas da soja [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] no Norte do Paraná, de fevereiro de 1996 a janeiro de 1997. As duas espécies foram comparadas, por apresentarem diferentes estratégias para a passagem do inverno. O percevejo verde, Nezara viridula (L.) que se alimenta o ano todo em plantas hospedeiras (cultivadas ou não) apresentou altas percentagens de parasitismo (35 a 100%) pela mosca Trichopoda giacomellii (Blanchard) ( = Eutrichopodopsis nitens Blanchard). | De adultos de Megalotomus parvus West. coletados durante agosto-novembro de 1995 em guandu, Cajanus cajan e lablab, Dolichos lablab (Leguminosae) na fazenda experimental do Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Soja, Londrina, PR., obtiveram-se adultos de taquinídeos pertencentes a três gêneros diferentes: Hyalomyia sp., Hyalomyodes sp., e Trichopoda sp., os quais estão depositados na coleção de insetos do Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Soja, Londrina, PR. A incidência do parasitismo foi ocasional, confirmando os escassos dados na literatura de ser o parasitismo por Tachinidae em percevejos Alydidae um fato raro. |

| Observou-se a ocorrência de Alcaeorrhynchus grandis (Dallas) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae: Asopinae) predando larvas da lagarta do girassol Chlosyne lacinia saundersii Doubleday & Hewitson em girassol (Helianthus annuus L.) na Fazenda Experimental da Embrapa Soja, no norte do Paraná, durante janeiro-fevereiro de 1998. De ovos coletados em campo, ninfas do percevejo foram criadas em laboratório alimentadas com larvas de C. l. saundersii obtidas no campo. As ninfas também foram criadas com larvas da lagarta da soja Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner obtidas em laboratório, para comparação. | Laboratory studies were conducted on mating, ovipositional rhythm, and fecundity of the southern green stink bug, Nezara viridula (L.) fed on immature fruits of privet, Ligustrum lucidum Thunb. and soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merrill. A greater number of pairs were observed mating on privet (27 to 37 %) than on soybean (22 to 23 %). The preoviposition period was significantly shorter when females fed on privet (15.5 days) than when they fed on soybean (23.9 days). | Avaliou-se os danos quantitativos e qualitativos do percevejo Euschistus heros (F.) aos aquênios de girassol (Helianthus annuus L.). O experimento foi conduzido na área experimental da Embrapa Soja, em Londrina, PR, onde foi semeada a cv. Embrapa 122 - V2000. Foram instaladas gaiolas (2,0 x 2,0 x 1,5m) cobertas com tela de nylon, contendo duas fileiras de girassol, totalizando 10 plantas/gaiola. As plantas foram infestadas com adultos de E. heros, nos níveis de 2, 4 e 8 insetos/planta, nos seguintes períodos: estágio R3 (segunda fase de alongamento do broto floral) até a colheita; estágio R6 (fase final de florescimento) até a colheita; e estágio R9 (maturação fisiológica dos aquênios) até a colheita. | Neomegalotomus parvus (West.) behavior related to choosing crevices of pigeon pea, Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp., pods to lay eggs were studied. Blocking antennae, tarsi, eyes, abdomen, or all structures simultaneously, did not affect the site of the pod (crevices) chosen to lay eggs. Oviposition occurred mainly in the afternoon. Most eggs were laid from 4 to 6 pm. Females moved antennae alternately up and down. Dabbing/antennation was accomplished, first with antennae and then with antennae and labial tip and the ovipositor was exposed and swept over the surface of the pod, leading to oviposition. Eggs were held together with an adhesive substance. Mechanoreceptors were observed on the ovipositor. |

| The phytophagous bug Neomegalotomus parvus (West.) feeds on pods and seeds of legumes. However, by the first time, in a laboratory colony, adults were found feeding on coespecific nymph and adult cadavers. Second instar nymphs, deprived of leguminous seeds, fed exclusively on died nymphs, reached the third instar. In the field, adults of N. parvus were found on animal carrions and feces, apparently feeding. Aggregations of adults were found on dog feces, as well. |

| Foram desenvolvidos estudos em laboratório com o percevejo-marrom Euschistus heros (Fabr.) para se determinar o estágio fotossensível à indução da diapausa. Utilizaram-se duas combinações de fotoperíodo 10L: 14E e 14L: 10E mantendo-se constante a temperatura em 25 ± 1ºC e a umidade relativa em 65 ± 5%. | Phytophagous hemipterans (heteropterans) are, in general, polyphagous, feeding on a wide array of plants. Among these, less preferred plant food sources are also explored as food and/or shelter. To illustrate this, I will discuss the feeding behavior of the southern green stink bug, Nezara viridula (L.) (Pentatomidae) on less preferred plants in Northern Paraná state. | Em casa-de-vegetação, plantas individualizadas de soja [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] foram infestadas com 1, 2, 4, 8 e 16 adultos de Neomegalotomus parvus (Westwood), no final do estádio R6, por um período de 20 dias, para determinação dos danos qualitativos nas sementes, através do teste de tetrazólio. Os resultados indicaram aumento na percentagem de danos totais em sementes e de sementes não viáveis, quando do aumento do número de percevejos/planta, bem como redução na percentagem do vigor das sementes e na viabilidade. | Artificial diets prepared with wheat germ, soybean protein, dextrosol, potato starch, sucrose, cellulose, soybean or sunflower oil, and vitamin solution for rearing Nezara viridula (L.) and Euschistus heros (Fabricius) were tested under controlled temperature (25 ± 1°C), RH (60 ± 10%), and photophase (14h).
