The polyphyletic origin of endoparasitism in the cyclostome lineages of Braconidae (Hymenoptera): a reassessment Naturalis
Quicke, D.L.J..
A recent phylogenetic analysis of selected groups of cyclostome braconid wasps by Whitfield (1992) was used to investigate the evolution of biological characters associated with the transition from ecto- to endoparasitism. Incorrect methodology in character polarization and incorrect scoring of characters, and a failure to include other available data are shown by reanalysis of a corrected data matrix to compromise Whitfield's conclusion that endoparasitism evolved twice in his selected set of taxa. Greater rigor and the use of additional informative characters are advocated to obtain more robust phylogeny upon which conclusions regarding biological evolution can be more reliably based.

Phylogeny of the subfamilies of the family Braconidae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonoidea) Naturalis
Quicke, D.L.J.; Achterberg, C. van.
A phylogenetic analysis of the subfamilies of the family Braconidae Nees, 1812 is presented. The analysis employing 96 phylogenetically informative characters was performed using the computerized parsimony programmes PAUP and Hennig86. The cladograms obtained show that the Braconidae can be divided into three major groups of subfamilies. These are a lineage comprising the mainly ectoparasitic cyclostomes and relatives, and two advanced endoparasitic groups, both apparently derived from somewhere near the endoparasitic cyclostome subfamily Rogadinae Foerster, 1862 sensu stricto. As a result of the phylogenetic analysis subfamily rank is given to the Exothecinae Foerster, 1862 (including the Hormiini Foerster, 1862), the Rhyssalinae Foerster, 1862 (including...

Afrocampsis, a new genus belonging to the Sigalphinae (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) from the Afrotropical region Naturalis
Achterberg, C. van; Quicke, D.L.J..
The tribe Acampsini (Braconidae: Sigalphinae) is reported for the first time from the Afrotropical region. The genus Afrocampsis gen. nov., and its type-species: A. griseosetosus spec. nov., are described and fully illustrated. An illustrated key to the Palaearctic and Afrotropical genera of the subfamily Sigalphinae is given.

The systematic placement of Afrocampsis van Achterberg & Quicke (Hymenoptera: Braconidae): molecular and morphological evidence indicate that it belongs to Helconinae s.l. not Sigalphinae Naturalis
Quicke, D.L.J.; Manzari, S.; Achterberg, C. van.
The D2 expansion region of 28S rDNA and the smaller D3 region of Afrocampsis griseosetosus van Achterberg & Quicke, 1990, were analysed. Molecular and morphological evidence indicate that Afrocampsis is the sister group of Urosigalphus + Canalicephalus (forming a separate clade close to the tribe Diospilini) or that it is associated with a group of the subfamily Helconinae s.s.

Venom gland and reservoir morphology of the genus Pseudoyelicones van Achterberg, Penteado-Dias & Quicke (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Rogadinae) and implications for relationships Naturalis
Areekul, B.; Zaldivar-Riverón, A.; Quicke, D.L.J..
The venom apparatus of Pseudoyelicones nigriscutum van Achterberg, 1997 (Braconidae: Rogadinae) is described and illustrated. The venom apparatus morphology of Pseudoyelicones is closely related to that of Bulborogas van Achterberg. Therefore, we propose a sister group relationship between these two genera.

The Palaeotropical species of the tribe Cosmophorini Capek (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Euphorinae) with descriptions of twenty-two new species Naturalis
Achterberg, C. van; Quicke, D.L.J..
A review of the known specimens of the tribe Cosmophorini Capek, 1958, from the Palaeotropics is given. Twenty-two species new to science are described and figured in this paper. Up to recently (Shaw, 1985; Chen & van Achterberg, 1997) the tribe was unknown from outside of the Holarctic region. Five Oriental species are included into Sinuatophorus van Achterberg, gen. nov. (type species: Sinuatophorus maximus van Achterberg, spec. nov. from Indonesia). Nine Oriental, two East Palaearctic, two Australian and four Afrotropical new species are included in the genus Cosmophorus Ratzeburg, 1848. A key to the Old World species of the Cosmophorini is added.
