| Immune-mediated thrombocytopenia, platelet destruction mediated by humoral and cellular responses, is frequently observed in dogs, especially in middle-age females of spaniels and Doberman breeds. The first line therapy involves the administration of corticosteroids in immunosuppressive doses and, in refractory cases, the pharmacological combination with other immunomodulatory agents seems often necessary. This case report describes the successful combination of vincristine sulfate to glucocorticoids (Dexamethasone) during the hospitalization of a dog with primary immune-mediated thrombocytopenia and related spontaneous bleeding, and discusses the therapeutic modalities in the literature. |
