| The Marine Strategy Framework Directive is based on the ecosystem approach in order to assess and manage human activities affecting marine environment. The sustainable exploitation of commercial stocks is one of the MSFD objectives. Data used for stock assessment mainly come from commercial fishery databases and scientific campaigns. However, in some cases, there is evidence that recreational fisheries have a significant impact on stocks. That is why the French monitoring program for MSFD requires to expand monitoring to some species that are not directly concerned by the Data Collection Framework.
