From two series of specimens of the genus Heterospio (Polychaetous Annelids, sedentaria) collected in the western Mediterranean, the authors describe two new species : the first one (H. mediterranena sp. n.) lives in bathyal muds, the second one ( H . reducta sp. n.) inhabits the abyssal plain. The two new species are compared with the two (or three) other species previously known. These samples corroborate the recent discovery of a single specimen of this rare genus in the Mediterranean. In the framework of a general study of the benthic communities located on the continental shelf in the Bay of Rosas (on the Spanish Catalonian coast of the Mediterranean), several specimens of a new genus belonging to the small family Poecilochaetidae Hannerz, 1956 were recovered. The object of this study is to describe and classify this unusual organism in relation to the one genus already known in this family. (NOT CONTROLLED OCR] |

The study of various collections of Polychaeta Paraonidae from the Mediterranean (continental shelf, continental slope and abyssal plain) has shown a great interest. Seven species and three subspecies are new to science. One species related to a deep-atlantic previously descaribed species, is new to the Mediterranean. Some morphological comparative studies are carried out for species not existing in the Mediterranean. The 28 species or subspecies reviewed in this work are generally located in the western Mediterranean. Regarding the repartition with depth, four species are strictly located in the abyssal plain, while three others are widely distributed from the first tens of meters to the largest depths. Most of remaining species inhabit the continental... |

The Chrysopetalidae family is represented in the Mediterranean Sea by two species of the genus Chrysopetalum, C. debile (Grube, 1855) and C. caecum (Langer-Hans, 1880). A third form has been observed on the Lebanese coast, on organogenous sandy beds, at depths of 10 metres, by Laubier (1966, p. 11) under the name "Chrysopetalidae gen. sp.?". New collections conducted on the Spanish Catalan coast (bay of Rosas) lead Ramos (1973) to refer this species to the genus Heteropale Johnson, 1897. [...] |
