Potamogeton trichoides Cham. |

This paper gives a survey of the forms of Scorpiurus muricatus L. In contradistinction to Thellung who distinguished in his “Flore adventice de Montpellier” 4 subspecies, the present authors subdivide the species into 2 subspecies, each with some varieties. They can be identified with the aid of the following key. In using this key, one must be aware of the fact that several transitions between the subspecies and the varieties exist. 1. Calyx-teeth triangular, shorter than to about as long as the tube. Pod loosely coiled, almost in one plane. Ribs of pod all smooth or only the outer ones muricate or spiny; spines stout, at most as long as the diameter of the pod. Seeds mostly slightly curved subsp. muricatus 2. Ribs of pod all smooth ........... var.... |

Lactuca tatarica (L.) C. A. Mey., a blue-flowered Lactuca of the Asiatic and Southeast- European steppe, was found in 1961 as an alien at Rotterdam, where it was more or less naturalized, growing between the basalt-blocks of the embankment of a harbour. Since the early years of the 20th century it has established itself in several places on the coast of the Baltic, where it is becoming part of the natural vegetation. It was also found in a few localities on the coast of England, Scotland and Ireland. As appears now, Lactuca tatarica was already found in 1942 at Doesburg (Gelderland), but was then misidentified as Lactuca perennis. |

Schipper, on wel in N.K.A. III,1 , 1897, p.... |

Of Cerastium holosteoides Fr. three subspecies occur in the Netherlands. Subsp. triviale (Murb.) Möschl is common throughout the country, subsp. holosteoides and subsp. pseudoholosteoides Möschl are very rare and only found in a few localities in the tidal area of our larger rivers (island of Dordrecht; Biesbosch). The three subspecies may be distinguished as follows: 1. Leaves hairy above. Indumentum of the plant consisting of long, very acute hairs, whether or not mixed with glandular ones.............. subsp. triviale 1’. Leaves glabrous above, at most ciliate at the margin. 2. Indumentum of the plant consisting of very acute hairs, which are, however, shorter than in subsp. triviale; glandular hairs present or lacking (fig. 1, b-c) subsp. holosteoides... |

This paper contains acquisitions to the adventitious flora of the Netherlands, mainly from the year 1962. 1. Cerastium dichotomum L. (fig. 1, d), a native of the Mediterranean region and of W. Asia, was found at Oostmahorn, prov. Friesland, near a harbour made for the reclamation of the Lauwerszee. 2. Arabis rosea DC., most likely introduced in the dunes near Bloemendaal, prov. N. Holland, with pheasant-food. The species is indigenous in Central and S. Italy, and in Sardinia and Sicily. Differences between this species and the closely related A. muralis Bertol. are discussed. 3. Pavonia urens Cav. (fig. 1, a-c). The var. hirsuta (Hochst. ex Ulbr.) Brenan of this tropical African species was found as an alien near a wool-mill at Tilburg, prov. N. Brabant.... |

Two acquisitions to the Netherlands adventitious flora from the year 1963. 1. Kochia scoparia subsp. densiflora (Turcz. ex Moq.) Aellen, distinguished from the typical subspecies by the long hairs at the base of the flowers, was found near Amsterdam as a grain introduction. 2. Tetragonolobus maritimus (L.) Roth. This species was found on the grassy slope of the Kunderberg near Voerendaal (prov. Limburg). It is supposed to be adventitious there, what is also said of the specimens from the nearest locality in Germany, the Schneeberg near Vaals, W. of Aachen. Polygonum compactum Hook. f. and Dicentra eximia (Ker) Torr., escaped from cultivation. |

The two subspecies of Juncus alpino-articulatus Chaix ex Vill. found in the Netherlands, viz. subsp. atricapillus (Drejer ex Lange) Reichg. and subsp. arthrophyllus (Brenner) Reichg. are restricted there to two distinctly separated areas. The former subspecies occurs only near the coast, in the dunes, the latter far inland near the eastern border of the country. In 1962 the coastal subspecies was found on the border of a pond near Wijchen, i.e. within the area of the inland one. Recently an acceptable explanation of the curious occurrence was found. Near the said pond several species from other parts of the country were planted, a.o. Parnassia from the dunes, and it seems probable that seeds of the Juncus have come there in this way. |

Three species of Alternanthera, viz. A. sessilis (L.) DC., A. pungens H.B.K., and A. peploides (Humb. & Bonpl. ex R. & Sch.) Urb. have been found as aliens in the Netherlands. They may be distinguished as follows: 1. Tepals almost equal in form and size, without excurrent midrib, glabrous, white. .................... 1. A. sessilis 1’. Tepals distinctly unequal in form and size, at least partly with an excurrent midrib, more or less hairy, dirty white. 2. The two largest (abaxial) tepals ca. 4½-5½ mm long, with a spiny point which accounts for about 1/3 of their length. Filaments and pseudostaminodes shortly triangular ....................... 2. A. pungens 2’. The two largest (abaxial) tepals ca. 4 mm long, with short, less spiny point. Filaments... |

This paper contains acquisitions to the Netherlands adventitious flora from the year 1961. 1. Amaranthus palmeri S. Wats. This is the second species of the subgenus Acnida (L.) Aellen found in the Netherlands. The first species, A. tamariscinus Nutt. was found in 1953 as a wool-alien. In October 1961 both dioecious species were collected growing together along a roadside near Wageningen, introduced with corn. Differential characters between the two species are given and also a figure of a bract (fig. 1, a), an outer (fig. 1, b) and an inner tepal (fig. 1, c) of a female flower of A. palmeri. A. palmeri occurs in the southwestern United States and in Mexico. 2. Polygonum capitatum Hamilt. ex Don (fig. 1, d) was found in 1960 in a beet field between Wylre... |
