| A widening range of rural adjustment assistance measures is being utilised, thereby increasing the range of government organisations involved. In choosing between these measures additional government and non-government research is required, with proposed policies accounting for the division of responsibility for assistance that exists between government organisations. There is also a need for greater policy co-ordination between these organisations, and a proposal for the establishment of a N.S.W. Rural Adjustment Advisory Council is outlined. |

| This paper examines the economic feasibility of Lostock Dam on the Paterson River, N.S.W. under a number of assumptions as to the resulting quantity and type of additional output. It is shown that the dam has a benefit-cost ratio greater than one only when the additional water is fully utilized and the discount rate is 5 per cent. However farmer estimates indicate that only a proportion of the extra water will be used, in which case the benefit-cost ratio is less than 0.1. |

| This article briefly compares the importance of natural adjustment and rural reconstruction measures in the decline of the number of registered dairymen in N.S.W. between 1963 and 1973. Some comments are then made as to the cost of concessional interest rate provisions for those farmers leaving dairying through the reconstruction schemes. The use of farm counsellors as an alternative to concessional finance is then suggested. |
