Forage mass production and grazing loss of sorghum hybrid in response to the density of the sowing and the spacing between planting lines R. Bras. Zootec.
Simili,Flávia Fernanda; Lima,Maria Lúcia Pereira; Moreira,Andréia Luciane; Soares,Paulo Victória; Roma Júnior,Luiz Carlos; Reis,Ricardo Andrade.
The objective of this experiment was to evaluate dry matter yield and loss of grazing due to animal trampling in response to sowing density and spacing between lines in the planting. Sorghum hybrid 1P400 was submitted to six treatments, composed of three sowing density combinations (12; 16 and 20 kg/ha of seeds) and two spacing between lines (0.40 and 0.80 m). Sorghum hybrid 1P400 was sowed in two seasons, at the end of spring (December 3rd, 2005) and the other at the end of summer (March 20th, 2006). Cultivation strategies influenced plant population in the two experimental seasons. Diameter of the stem in season 1 decreased with density increase, whereas in the second season, interaction between sowing density and spacing was significant. In the first...

In situ degradability of corn stover and elephant-grass harvested at four stages of maturity Scientia Agricola
Silva,Luis Felipe Prada e; Cassoli,Laerte Dagher; Roma Júnior,Luiz Carlos; Rodrigues,Ana Carolina de Oliveira; Machado,Paulo Fernando.
Among tropical forages, corn silage is largely used by farmers trying to explore the maximum genetic potential from the animals. However, other tropical forages, such as elephant-grass (Pennisetum purpureum), are more productive and therefore cheaper to use than corn silage. Our objective was to compare the in situ degradability of elephant-grass with that from corn hybrids, all harvested at four stages of maturity. The experimental design followed a randomized block design with nested subplots. Two corn hybrids: AG5011, ZN8392 were harvested with 25, 30, 35, and 40% dry matter (DM) in the whole plant, and separated in stem + leaf sheath + leaf blade (stover), and cobs. Elephant-grass was harvested with 30, 40, 50 and 60 days after a leveling cut. Dried...

Gonçalves,Ana Carolina Siqueira; Roma Júnior,Luiz Carlos; Privatti,Rafaela Torrezan; Salles,Márcia Saladini Vieira; Paz,Claudia Cristina Paro de; Zadra,Lenira El Faro; Vidal,Ana Maria Centola.
ABSTRACT: The study aimed to evaluate the equipment Ekomilk Scan® as an alternative to somatic cell count (SCC) in milk. For this individual cow milk samples of various ages and different stages of lactation in northeastern state of São Paulo region were collected. The analyzes performed were divided into variables related to the equipment: repeatability and reproducibility, and variables that could influencing the results as: use of preservatives, temperature, time between collection and analysis, breed and milk composition, besides analysis to relate the Ekomilk Scan® with the standard method-direct microscopy and reference-flow cytometry. As the result, for samples analysis, it shouldn’t be added preservative and these should be conducted on the same...
