OPTIMUM PLOT SIZE AND NUMBER OF REPLICATIONS IN PAPAYA FIELD EXPERIMENT Rev. Bras. Frutic.
SCHMILDT,EDILSON ROMAIS; SCHMILDT,OMAR; CRUZ,COSME DAMIÃO; CATTANEO,LAERCIO FRANCISCO; FERREGUETTI,GERALDO ANTÔNIO.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to estimate the optimum plot size and number of replications in papaya field experiments. Eleven variables were evaluated in four cultivars of papaya with planting in different seasons between 2011 and 2013 in the north of the Espírito Santo state. Analysis were made from blank test applied to 240 selected for planting season and cultivate plants in commercial fields. The determination of optimum plot size was performed by applying the methodologies of modified maximum curvature and maximum curvature of coefficient of variation. The determination of the number of repetitions was taken from the least significant difference in average 20% and 30%. The optimum plot size proved the same by the two methods studied for most...

PLOT SIZE IN THE EVALUATION OF PAPAYA SEEDLINGS 'BAIXINHO DE SANTA AMÁLIA' IN TUBES Rev. Bras. Frutic.
CELANTI,HUMBERTO FELIPE; SCHMILDT,OMAR; ALEXANDRE,RODRIGO SOBREIRA; CATTANEO,LAERCIO FRANCISCO; SCHMILDT,EDILSON ROMAIS.
ABSTRACT Were evaluated three characters in papaya seedlings 'Baixinho de Santa Amália' to estimate the optimum plot size and the number of replications in a completely randomized experiment, a randomized block and Latin square. The characters were seedling height, leaf number and length of roots from uniformity test with 240 seedlings. The determination of the optimum plot size was done by applying the method of Hatheway (1961). The number of seedlings per plot for seedling production is variable depending on the number of treatments and replications assumed precision, the character in question and the experimental design. Comparing designs, the plot size is greater in the Latin square, followed by a randomized block design and completely randomized, and...

Somatic embryogenesis in the commercial papaya hybrid UENF/Caliman 01 relying on plantlet production from sexed adult hermaphrodite donor plants Anais da ABC (AABC)
GOUVEA,DRIELLY S.; CHAGAS,KRISTHIANO; CIPRIANO,JAMILE L.D.; LOPES,JOSÉ CARLOS; SCHMILDT,EDILSON R.; OTONI,WAGNER C.; SCHMILDT,OMAR; ARAUJO,CAROLINE P. DE; ALEXANDRE,RODRIGO S..
Abstract: Somatic embryogenesis from explants from hermaphrodite papaya mother plants is an alternative for the production of true-to-type plants without the need for sexing. This study aimed to analyze hormonal and osmotic inducers in different somatic embryogenesis stages in the commercial hermaphrodite hybrid papaya UENF/Caliman 01. Leaf disks from in vitro shoots originated from ex vitro hermaphrodite plants were cultured in induction medium supplemented with different concentrations of 2,4-D (6, 9, 12, 15, and 18 μM) and 4-CPA (19, 22, 25, 28, and 31 μM). After 90 days, the formation of somatic embryos was verified. The 2,4-D induced the formation of light brown calli with low frequency (20%) of somatic embryogenesis. However, 4-CPA (25 μM) induced...

Morphophysiology, Phenotypic and Molecular Diversity of Auxin-induced Passiflora mucronata Lam. (Passifloraceae) Anais da ABC (AABC)
FRANÇA,JULIANY M.; VENIAL,LUCIMARA R.; COSTA,ELOÁ B.; SCHMILDT,EDILSON R.; SCHMILDT,OMAR; BERNARDES,PAULA M.; TATAGIBA,SANDRO D.; LOPES,JOSÉ C.; FERREIRA,MARCIA F.S.; ALEXANDRE,RODRIGO S..
ABSTRACT Genetic diversity allows identification of potential intraspecific genotypes in the genus Passiflora. The objective of this study was to examine the morphological and genetic diversity of auxin-induced Passiflora mucronata. The experiments were arranged in a complete randomized block design, with a 9 x 2 factorial arrangement (nine genotypes x presence and absence of auxin, indole-3-butyric acid (IBA)), with four replicates of 16 cuttings. The rooting and vegetative growth responses were variable. Genotype 5 was more responsive in the absence of IBA and genotypes 3, 8 and 9 were more responsive in the presence of IBA. Auxin increased rooting rate and percentage, reducing the average time of root protrusion in eight days. IBA also contributed to...
