Medicinal plants used by the Kaiowá and Guarani indigenous populations in the Caarapó Reserve, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil Acta Botanica
Bueno,Norlene Regina; Castilho,Rachel Oliveira; Costa,Reginaldo Brito da; Pott,Arnildo; Pott,Vali J.; Scheidt,Gessiel Newton; Batista,Marcelo da Silva.
This ethnobotanical survey carried out with the Kaiowá and Guarani populations in the Caarapó Reserve (Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil) showed that 34 plant species of 22 families with medicinal properties, are used for treating diverse pathologies. Local names in Portuguese and Guarani are provided, along with therapeutic indications, modes of preparation, and a description of the plant parts used. These folk-medicine plants have been mostly used for the treatment of influenza, abdominal pain, fever and rheumatism, and for wound healing.

Evaluation of toxic effects with transition metal ions, EDTA, SBTI and acrylic polymers on Aedes aegypti (L., 1762) (Culicidae) and Artemia salina (Artemidae) BABT
Arruda,Eduardo José de; Rossi,Ana Paula Leão; Andrade Porto,Karla Rejane de; Oliveira,Lincoln Carlos Silva de; Arakaki,Andrea Haruko; Scheidt,Gessiel Newton; Roel,Antonia Railda.
This work aimed to evaluate the toxicity of some insecticides compounds on Aedes aegypti and Artemia salina larvae. Bioassays were carried out to evaluate the toxic effect after of 24 and 72 h using the compounds or associations. The LC10, LC50 and LC90 values were obtained and utilized for toxicity comparations. For Ae. aegypti, LC50 were 32.65 mg L-1 in 24 h for Na2[EDTA-Cu(II)] and total mortality in 72 h for SAP-Na2[EDTA-Cu(II)].

Modelling antagonic effect of lactic acid eacteria supernatants on some pathogenic bacteria BABT
Portella,Augustus Caeser Franke; Karp,Susan; Scheidt,Gessiel Newton; Woiciechwski,Adenise Lorenci; Parada,Jose Luis; Soccol,Carlos Ricardo.
This work presents a statistical model of survival analysis for three pathogenic bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus), when treated with neutralized and non-neutralized filtered supernatants broth from cultures of Lactobacillus acidhophilus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Lactobacillus sake. Survival analysis is a method employed to determine the period of time from an initial stage up to the occurrence of a particular event of interest, as death or a particular culture growth failure. In order to evaluate the potential efficacy of the ahead mentioned lactic acid bacteria when used as bioprotective starters in foods, experimental data were statistically treated and expressed by simple representative curves....

Utilization of the biorreactor of imersion by bubbles at the micropropagation of Ananas comosus L. Merril BABT
Scheidt,Gessiel Newton; Arakaki,Andréa Haruko; Chimilovski,Jacqueline Sugitani; Portella,Augustus Caeser Franke; Spier,Michele Rigon; Woiciechowski,Adenise Lorenci; Biasi,Luiz Antonio; Soccol,Carlos Ricardo.
The research for new techniques of in vitro cultivation is being object of many studies around the world, in order to optimize and decrease production costs of seedlings with agronomical interest. The main goal of this work was to compare different systems of in vitro cultivations using Ananas comosus L. Merril. So, the in vitro growth of the plantlets was promoted in two different bioreactors: Bioreactor of Immersion by Bubbles (B.I.B.®) and the Reactor of Temporary Immersion (R.I.T.A.®) with immersion cycle every 2 hours for 15 minutes and the traditional system in flasks with 200 mL. All cultivation systems used the MS liquid nutritive solution, supplemented with BAP (1 mgL-1), ANA (0.25 mgL-1), sucrose (30 gL-1) and Tween 20® (0.5 µL). The pH was...
