Effects of moisture content and level in the crop on the bending characteristics of chickpea stem CIGR Journal
Shahbazi, Feizollah.
This study was conducted with the aim to evaluate the effects of moisture content and stem region on the some physical properties and bending characteristics of chickpea stems including bending stress and Young’s modulus of chickpea stems. The experiments were conducted at four moisture contents of 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% wet basis and at the bottom, middle and top regions of stem. The bending forces were measured at different moisture contents and the bending stress and the Young’s modulus were calculated from these data. Based on the results obtained, the values of the stem physical properties increased with increasing moisture content. Their values also increased towards the bottom region. The bending stress and Young modulus in bending decreased with...

Effects of moisture content and level in the crop on the shearing properties of chickpea stem CIGR Journal
Shahbazi, Feizollah.
The objective of this research was to determine the effects of moisture content and stem region on some physical and shearing properties of chickpea stems. The experiments were conducted at four moisture contents of 10, 15, 20 and 25% w.b. and at the bottom, middle and top regions of stem. For measuring the shearing forces, the stem specimens were severed by using a computer aided cutting apparatus. The shearing energy was calculated by using the area under the shearing force versus displacement curve. Based on the results obtained, the values of the stem physical properties increased with increasing moisture content. Their values also increased towards the bottom region. The shearing stress and the specific shearing energy increased with increasing...

Correlating the mass of walnut fruit to some physical characteristics CIGR Journal
Shahbazi, Feizollah.
Physical characteristics of fruits and vegetables and their relationships are necessary for the design of some postharvest processing systems such as handling, sorting and packaging machines and reducing the processing costs. For proper design of grading systems, important relationships between the mass and other properties of fruits such as length, width, thickness, volumes and projected areas must be known. The aim of this research was to measure and present some physical properties of walnut fruits. In addition, walnut fruit mass was correlated to measured physical properties using linear, the Quadratic, S-curve and power models as three different classifications: (1) single variable regressions of walnut dimensional characteristics; (2) single variable...

Surface Color Characteristic of Wheat Grains as Affected by Different Fertilization Rates CIGR Journal
Shahbazi, Feizollah; Nematollahi, Ameneh.
The objectives were to investigate the relationship between the surface color characteristics of wheat grains and phosphorous and iron fertilizer rates. The treatments were a combination of four rates of phosphorus (0, 75, 150, and 225 kg ha-1) and three rates of foliar iron (0, 1.2, and 2 L ha-1) with three replications. The results of the study showed that some of the surface color values of wheat grains were depended on the phosphorous and foliar iron application rates; resulting in color shift toward the lighter regions. Phosphorus rates created higher variations than iron rates. With increasing the iron rate from 0 to 2 L ha-1, the average value of L* and  color units increased significantly from 40.01 to 41.16, and from 1.56 to 3.33 respectively. No...

Mass modeling of persimmon fruit with some physical characteristics CIGR Journal
Shahbazi, Feizollah; Rahmati, Satar.
For proper design of grading systems of horticultural crops, important relationships between the mass and other properties of fruits such as length, width, thickness, volumes and projected areas must be known.  The aim of this research was to measure and present some physical properties of persimmon fruits and correlating the mass of persimmon fruits to measured physical properties using linear, quadratic, S-curve and power models as three different classifications: (1) Single variable regressions of persimmon dimensional characteristics, (2) single variable regressions of persimmon mass based on projected areas and (3) estimating the persimmon mass based on its volumes.  The results showed that mass modeling of persimmon based on length and the first...
