Composition and diversity of Ephemeroptera (Insecta) nymph communities in the middle section of the Jacuí River and some tributaries, southern Brazil Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Siegloch,Ana Emilia; Froehlich,Claudio Gilberto; Kotzian,Carla B..
The taxonomic composition and diversity of assemblages of Ephemeroptera nymphs of four lotic environments in the central region of State of Rio Grande do Sul, a subtropical area in southern Brazil, were evaluated. Samplings were done monthly, with a Surber sampler, from June 2001 to May 2002, in the Jacuí River and three of its tributaries. The total number of nymphs collected in the four sampling sites was 11,007 in five families and 19 genera, of these, 11 are new records for the State. The highest diversity occurred in Point 4 (H'=2.41) and the lowest in Point 2 (H'=1.69). Point 4 had the highest environmental stability, conservation of the riparian vegetation and the lowest anthropic impact, while Point 2 presented a large environmental simplification...

Diversity of Ephemeroptera (Insecta) of the Serra da Mantiqueira and Serra do Mar, southeastern Brazil Rev. Bras. entomol.
Siegloch,Ana Emilia; Froehlich,Claudio Gilberto; Spies,Marcia Regina.
The aim of this study was to inventory the mayfly fauna, based on nymphal and alate stages, in Serra da Mantiqueira and in Serra do Mar, São Paulo State, as well as to present information about habitats used by the genera. Nymphs were collected in several streams and mesohabitats with a Surber sampler and the winged stages with light attraction methods, entomological nets, and Malaise traps. In all, eight families and 33 genera were recorded, representing a very significant portion of the Brazilian fauna (80% of families and 49% of genera). Furthermore, it was possible to identify 11 species, of which two are new records for the state: Tricorythodes santarita Traver and Caenis reissi Malzacher. Despite the high diversity recorded, the accumulation curves...

Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera e Trichoptera assemblages in Miranda River basin, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Righi-Cavallaro,Karina Ocampo; Spies,Marcia Regina; Siegloch,Ana Emilia.
The knowledge on the Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera (EPT) assemblages in running waters of Mato Grosso do Sul State is still deficient. As a contribution to improve this situation, this study presents an inventory of immature EPT assemblages in Miranda River basin. The samples were collected between January and September 2006 from 4th to 7th orders river reaches. A total of 3069 larvae were collected, belonging to 49 genera and 17 families. The caddisflies presented the greatest abundance while the mayflies presented the greatest richness. Of the larvae collected, 22 genera of Ephemeroptera and 20 of Trichoptera are new occurrences for the State. The high genera richness observed in this study, with sites subjected to moderate to high human...

Mafra,Maria Sueli Heberle; Lunardi,Willian Galdino; Siegloch,Ana Emilia; Rech,Ângela Fonseca; Rech,Tássio Dresch; Campos,Mari Lucia; Kempka,Aniela Pinto; Werner,Simone Silmara.
ABSTRACT: Urban environments are contaminated in many ways with persistent organic and inorganic pollutants as a result of anthropogenic activities, endangering human health and natural resources. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the soil contamination by cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn) in 10 vegetable gardens of urban schools located near or on Botucatu sandstone outcrops of Guarani Aquifer in the urban areas of Lages, Santa Catarina, Brazil. In each garden, three soil samples at each position (in the soil immediately outside and the soil in the garden) were collected at a depth of 0-20 cm. The ISO 11466 method was used to extract the metals. Inductively coupled plasma...
